Exploring the Youth Cafe 'Pium' in Jincheon
Recently, I came across the news that the Jincheon Chamber of Commerce was opening a youth cafe called 'Pium.' Curious about what kind of space it was and how it could help young people, I decided to visit it myself.

The Youth Cafe Pium is located on the 3rd floor of the building housing the Jincheon Chamber of Commerce. It is not difficult to find, as it is situated behind the Jincheon Education Support Office and the Jincheon Community Center. The name 'Pium,' which means to ignite dreams and possibilities, was selected from a naming contest held in June.
Pium is a youth-friendly space designed to support unemployed young people in their daily lives and job-seeking activities, connecting them from career exploration to employment. Anyone aged 15 to 39 who is unemployed can use this space!
Due to the name 'youth cafe,' my first thought before visiting was about coffee. Indeed, Youth Cafe Pium combines the comfort of a cafe with a job support space. Upon entering Pium, the first thing that catches your eye is the comfortable sofas and tables. There is also a large beverage vending machine on one side, offering a variety of drinks for free!
Inside the cafe, there is a classroom for educational programs. During times without classes, it can also be used for study sessions or personal job-seeking activities. Currently, Pium offers not only programs that assist with employment but also various experiential programs. In August, the free programs available covered a wide range of topics, including Excel, resume writing, interview skills, makeup, and Chinese. This diversity allows young people preparing for employment to discover their interests and gain new experiences.
To use the youth cafe, you must first fill out an application form via a QR code. After a one-on-one consultation with the operating organization, participants can utilize the cafe space and various programs. There are also laptops and a multifunction printer available for free use, which is very helpful for writing and printing resumes or cover letters.
Personally, the most eye-catching feature of the youth cafe was the photo wall. It showcases photos taken by the young people active in Pium. Next to the photo wall, there is a smart receipt camera, allowing visitors to take instant photos and create memories. I believe that Youth Cafe Pium can be more than just a space providing employment information; it can become a place where young people meet, share experiences, and regain their strength.
Although Youth Cafe Pium is not large, it seems to encompass all the necessary functions for young people, including counseling, education, study, and job-seeking activities. I hope that many young people in Jincheon will come to know about Pium and actively utilize it to achieve great success in their job searches.
