Exploring the Scenic Paths of Dangjin: A Day of Nature and Culture

Discovering the scenic spots of Dangjin, I want to share a special day spent in the beautiful greenery of spring.
Walking along the Naepo Cultural Forest Path and the Mongsanseong Zelkova Tree Trail, I immersed myself in nature while enjoying the cultural arts festival held around Myeoncheon Fortress, filling my day with sensory experiences.
The event started with a walking tour through the historical Mongsanseong Zelkova Tree Trail, where history and nature coexist. The vibrant schedule included performances, experiences, and delicious food at the 'Another Spring Myeoncheon' festival, making for a much more colorful and lively day than expected.
As we walked beneath the lush Zelkova trees, I savored the freshness of early summer, enjoying special moments amidst the music, performances, and laughter at the festival. I wanted to document this day filled with the joy of walking and the excitement of the festival.
Shall we embark on a journey to Dangjin, capturing the vibrant atmosphere of that day? The base camp for the walking event was right in front of the Myeoncheon Fortress.
After confirming the participants, we received snacks and gathered at the main stage. Before the 10 AM start, we participated in a warm-up session and a quiz event, which helped lift the spirits of the participants, adding to the lively atmosphere of the event.
The excitement built before the official start, thanks to the cheerful atmosphere filled with laughter and encouragement. What is the 'Mongsanseong Zelkova Tree Habitat'? It was artificially created during the Baekje period, serving as a crucial defense mechanism against enemy invasions.
Recognized as a unique case nationwide, it has been designated as a 'National Forest Cultural Asset.' You can find this dense Zelkova forest along the Naepo Cultural Forest Path, specifically on sections of the Baekje 8·9 course and Donghak 1 course!
Finally, at 10 AM, with numerous participants gathered at the main stage, we shouted 'Fighting!' and took a group photo before the race officially began.
This course started at Myeoncheon Fortress, reached the summit of Mongsan, and returned, totaling 5 km (10:00 AM - 12:00 PM).
Though the heat made it challenging at first, I maintained my own pace and gradually picked up speed. The course was well-marked, and the staff from the Naepo Cultural Forest Path provided solid leadership, allowing us to walk safely without worrying about getting lost.
Despite the continuous uphill to the summit, there were gentle paths and well-maintained stairs that made the ascent manageable. After sweating it out, I finally reached the summit of Mongsan!
After stamping my completion card, I participated in a lucky draw and, to my surprise, won a foam cleanser instead of a 'no prize'! I took a cheerful selfie and quickly descended, as there were no missions left on the way down.
I finished in third place! Holding my completion badge and prize, I happily completed a survey and successfully wrapped up the walking event.
After the walking event, the area around Myeoncheon Fortress was buzzing with the energy of the 'Another Spring Myeoncheon' festival. The festival was divided into themed areas, making it enjoyable to explore slowly.
The main operation zone served as the festival's hub, featuring an information center, medical booth, and booths from the Dangjin Police Station, Dangjin Arts Council, and the National Student Art Competition, among others.
It was a popular spot as it offered everything from event information to experiences and promotions all in one place. The promotional booths included local delicacies, aromatic coffee, and traditional snacks, providing a variety of food and sights.
As I explored the booths, I naturally discovered the charm of the region. The 'Gyeonil Zone' was filled with colorful and emotional art market spaces, showcasing handmade crafts and workshop creations, allowing for engaging conversations with the artists.
Just strolling through was a visual delight, making it hard to leave. While wandering, I stumbled upon a captivating performance by the team 'Funnist,' who engaged the audience in a fun and interactive way, making us laugh out loud.
After working up an appetite, I went to try the famous Myeoncheon bean noodle soup. The popular eateries had long waits, so I chose a relatively quiet spot next to the festival grounds, and it turned out to be a great decision!
The bean soup was rich and refreshing, complemented by a delicious side of pickled peppers, allowing me to finish the bowl in no time. There was also a food truck zone offering various tasty options, filling the air with delightful aromas.
Seated at a table enjoying my meal, many were taking breaks while savoring the festival atmosphere with family and friends.
After refueling, I headed back to the front of the guesthouse. I caught a glimpse of a rehearsal by 'Code Sesh,' who skillfully handled large metal hoops, before watching the stunning performance of 'Youth Again - Hillers.'
The breathtaking performance on the long pole was truly mesmerizing, and I was captivated by the artists' stage presence, making it hard to leave even under the scorching sun. We cheered and applauded the talented artists who worked hard in the heat.
Finally, at 2 PM, the highlight of the day arrived with the performance by Sweet Sorrow on the main stage. The moment was worth the wait, with sweet harmonies and lively songs bringing the audience together to enjoy the 'Another Spring Myeoncheon' festival.
This was an emotionally moving festival, showcasing how well-organized the special programs, side events, and children's experiences were for the citizens.
This concludes the vibrant walking event on the Mongsanseong Zelkova Tree Trail and the 'Another Spring Myeoncheon' festival.
