The Jincheon Andong Kim Clan Sacrificial Gate is a historical site that honors loyalty and sacrifice during the late Joseon Dynasty.

Built to commemorate four members of the Andong Kim family who lost their lives defending Jincheon during the Imjin War, the gate quietly preserves a story of devotion and community protection.

Located in Jincheon-eup, this place offers both historical depth and a calm natural setting for visitors seeking a reflective moment.

A Symbol of Loyalty in Jincheon

The Jincheon Andong Kim Clan Sacrificial Gate stands as a symbol of the Andong Kim family’s loyalty during a turbulent period in Korean history.

In 1728, during the uprising led by Yi In-jwa, brothers Kim Cheon-ju and Kim Cheon-jang, together with Kim Seong-chu and Kim Seong-ok, formed a militia to defend Jincheon.

All four lost their lives, and their sacrifice was later recognized by royal decree, leading to the construction of this commemorative gate.

Architectural Features of the Sacrificial Gate

The gate is a wooden structure with a gabled roof, built in a modest yet dignified style.

It features a one-bay front and a one-bay side, enclosed by a wall made of mixed clay and stone, topped with roof tiles.

On the front hangs an inscription reading “One Door, Four Loyalties,” expressing the spirit behind the structure.

Historical Records Preserved on Site

Inside the gate, a plaque written in 1886 by Jeong Mun-won is preserved, further documenting the historical meaning of the site.

Although small in scale, these records add depth to the story of the Andong Kim family and their role in local history.

The site quietly conveys its message without elaborate displays, allowing visitors to reflect at their own pace.
