Exploring the Healing Spots of Geochang: Gamaksan Mineral Spring and Yeonsusa Temple

Geochang, located in Gyeongnam, is home to many serene spots perfect for a peaceful retreat in nature.
Today, I would like to introduce two must-visit places in Geochang: Gamaksan Mineral Spring and Yeonsusa Temple, where you can enjoy refreshing spring water and beautiful mountain scenery.
The drive along the green mountain roads is pleasant, and it's a great place to take a break in the fresh air, making it an ideal healing destination.
On the right side of the road leading up to Gamaksan Byeolbaram Hill, you will find the Gamaksan Mineral Spring. I recommend filling a bottle with the cool water to take with you on your hike.
There is a parking lot conveniently located not far from the spring.
There are three paths leading to the mineral spring: a barefoot trail, stone steps, and a deck path. I even saw some people bringing carts to collect the spring water during my last visit.
On this hot day, drinking the spring water felt as refreshing as water just taken out of the refrigerator.
It was nice to sip from my tumbler while walking along the barrier-free path of Gamaksan.
The Gamaksan Mineral Spring was established in 1998, and this year, a health inspection certificate from February is displayed, allowing visitors to drink the water with peace of mind.
Behind the spring, you can see stone towers built by visitors.
There are also two benches where you can relax in the shade of the pine trees.
The third barefoot trail leads to the mineral spring.
Across from the spring, there is a grape farm where you can purchase grapes directly during the summer.

Yeonsusa Temple is just a 2-3 minute drive from Gamaksan Mineral Spring, making it a recommended spot to visit together.
Located at the foot of Gamaksan, Yeonsusa Temple is a quiet place where the tranquil atmosphere blends beautifully with nature. Instead of being flashy, it offers a simple and comfortable ambiance, perfect for a short break while enjoying the changing scenery with each season.
After climbing the stone steps for about a minute, you will reach the courtyard where the main hall is located.
Before reaching the main hall, there is a large ginkgo tree estimated to be around 600 years old, standing 38 meters tall and with a circumference of 7 meters.
If you visit around November 11th, you can see the beautiful yellow ginkgo leaves.
For those looking for a temple to visit in Geochang on Buddha's Birthday, I highly recommend Yeonsusa Temple.
As you climb the high steps, the main hall comes into view.
Yeonsusa Temple has a delicious spring water that flows from a rock crevice, which remains plentiful even during severe droughts. Legend has it that King Heongang of Silla was cured of a stroke by this spring water, and it is known for maintaining a consistent temperature throughout the year.
Next to the main hall, there is a bell tower that harmonizes beautifully with the natural scenery of Gamaksan.
Just a 5-minute walk down from Yeonsusa Temple, you can also find a water spring, making your healing trip to Geochang even more fulfilling.
