As someone who loves forests, I have been visiting natural recreation forests across the country. There has always been a place I kept saying, "I must visit someday..." That place is Yongin Mountain Natural Recreation Forest.
Although it is easily accessible from Seoul and the metropolitan area, I had only passed by it for several years. However, after visiting with a light heart this time, I thought, "Ah, I need to come here more often."
Despite being not far from the city, the warmth of the forest is truly profound. I particularly enjoy walking slowly and taking in the scenery, and Yongin Mountain felt like a forest made for people who love to walk.
The paths are gently connected, with benches and viewpoints scattered throughout, and there are more photo spots than I expected, which made me take out my camera repeatedly throughout the day.
As soon as I took my first step, the air changed.
When I arrived at the entrance of the mountain and opened my car door, the scent of the forest rushed in. It's fascinating how the air can feel completely different even though I haven't traveled far. The first thing I noticed was that my mood became calm. Just imagining the walking path ahead made my heart feel relaxed.
The forest trails at Yongin Mountain are generally easy for anyone to walk. Perhaps that's why it has the charm of a "not difficult forest." Families, couples, friends, and solo travelers were all enjoying the scenery at their own pace.
If you are visiting Yongin Mountain for the first time, I would recommend the barrier-free forest trail. It has little to no slope and is well-maintained for easy access by wheelchairs and strollers. A friend who is a beginner at walking said, "Oh, I think I can do this!" As I walked slowly along the path, the sounds of the forest, the feeling of the breeze, and the earthy scent of herbs made me feel at ease.
The arboretum is larger than expected, especially well-organized with native plants from the central region, giving it the feel of a "beautiful natural classroom." The walking paths are gentle, making it perfect for taking photos while walking.
After thoroughly enjoying the arboretum and forest paths, entering the greenhouse felt like embarking on a small journey. Outside, the early winter wind was cold, but the greenhouse was filled with a gentle and warm atmosphere. Inside, tropical and subtropical plants, various cacti, and exotic plants create a completely different ambiance.
While walking, you will encounter small photo zones. Yongin Mountain is more about the scenery itself being a photo spot rather than having artificial photo zones. Sunlight filtering through the trees, the wooden arch at the entrance of the arboretum, and the lush forest paths create natural frames for beautiful photos.
After a stroll around Yongin Mountain Natural Recreation Forest, I felt that the distance between the city and nature is surprisingly short. I didn't climb a high mountain or walk all day, but I felt much lighter and my heart brightened. The ability to experience the forest paths, arboretum, and greenhouse all in one place is truly appealing.
On days when you want a light healing experience, get closer to nature, or enjoy a comfortable forest walk with your child, Yongin Mountain Natural Recreation Forest will be a choice you won't regret.
