Exploring the Beauty of Sapgyo Lake Park
For a long time, the sea route to China has passed through Sinpyeong-myeon in Dangjin City. The construction of the Sapgyo River embankment in 1979 has made this area even more enjoyable.
The sea route has given way to the vast artificial lake known as Sapgyoho.
The lake offers stunning views of the Saemangeum Sea and the Seohae Bridge, allowing visitors to experience beautiful scenery along the Sapgyoho Naval Park, Sapgyoho Marine Park, and Sapgyoho Lake Park.
On a day when the monsoon rains were intermittent, I enjoyed the summer at Sapgyoho Lake Park.
Starting at the entrance of the Sapgyoho tourist area, I passed through the Ugang Plain towards the Solmoe Holy Site.
The area is perfect for a leisurely stroll or a bike ride. I chose to ride a bicycle and enjoyed the summer atmosphere of the lakeside park.
Across from the Dangjin World Art Circus, there is a public bicycle rental station operated by the Dangjin Urban Corporation. It operates from 10 AM to 5 PM, and the rental fee is a very reasonable 1,000 won per hour.
After a 1,000 won automatic transfer, I rented a tandem bicycle and headed towards Sapgyoho Lake Park.
Crossing the Sapgyo River embankment and passing through a wide plaza, I arrived at the end of Sapgyoho Lake Park.
With a total area of 82,000 square meters, it features multi-purpose grounds, a baseball field, ecological wetlands, a playground, a park golf course, and a children's playground.
The expansive area takes more than an hour to walk through, and it is equipped with convenient facilities such as parking lots, restrooms, and drinking fountains.
In spring and autumn, scenic complexes are created, while a water play area opens in summer.
Despite the high humidity from the intermittent rain, riding the bicycle felt refreshing due to the breeze.
However, the open fields lacked shade, so I recommend avoiding midday rides.
As the monsoon season comes to an end, extreme heat is also expected. Few people were walking due to the heat, and only occasional cyclists passed by.
The Sapgyoho Lake Park features a bike path alongside the lake and sports facilities, a sculpture park, and a water play area, all connected by walking trails. There are benches along the way, making it a great spot to rest.
Sculptures are installed around the water play area, and the lush green grass of the park golf course is vibrant.
The vast fields and greenery were refreshing to the eyes and heart.
The park golf course was empty during the day, likely due to the heat, and is expected to be busy early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
The water play area near the park golf course is scheduled to open from July 25 to August 17.
The once quiet lake park is expected to become lively with the opening of the water play area.
Riding my bicycle around Sapgyoho Lake Park, I returned to the fish photo zone after about 30 minutes.
If it feels a bit short, you can extend your ride along the bike path to the Ugang Plain on the opposite side of Sapgyoho Lake.
It is 5 km to the Cow Rest Area, 11 km to the Whale Rest Area, and 20 km to the Hahdeok Dam via the Solmoe Holy Site.
After passing the Unjeong Pumping Station, the bike path continues along Sapgyoho Lake, with the vast plains of Dangjin stretching out on both sides.
This section allows for an uninterrupted biking experience. However, I had to turn back due to sudden heavy rain.
The calm waters of Sapgyoho Lake had a ferry docked, while the Dangjin Plain was turning lush with ripening rice.
In the hot summer sun, crops grow vigorously. The water play area at Sapgyoho Lake Park opened on July 25, and the greenery of the lawn and bushes was refreshing. I welcomed summer with a light stroll or a bike ride.
