Exploring the Beauty of Hapdeokje

As mid-May passes, the season shifts towards the height of summer, extending the summer days as spring becomes shorter.
The daytime temperature rises above 30 degrees Celsius, signaling a long and hot summer ahead.
If you want to escape the heat, I recommend a visit to Hapdeokje.
Hapdeokje features willow-lined paths that showcase vibrant greenery from spring to autumn, complemented by cherry blossoms, canola flowers, and lotus flowers.
Hapdeokje symbolizes the agricultural heart of Dangjin, the largest rice-producing area in South Korea.
According to legend, it was established in the late Silla period when Gyeon Hwon of Later Baekje built a fortress and constructed embankments for feeding horses.
During the Joseon Dynasty, it served as one of the three major reservoirs and provided irrigation for the Sodeulgang plain.
However, due to societal changes in modern times, most of the area transformed into rice paddies, with only a small portion remaining as a waterside park for enjoying lotus flowers.
The walking trail starting from the Hapdeok Water Folk Museum offers a spacious route of about an hour. It features interconnected paths around the perimeter and through the center, leading to various ponds in wetland forms.
In May, the lotus flowers are still just dry stems.
The Hapdeok Waterside Park has cherry trees clustered along the outer embankment, while dense willows grow on the inside.
As cherry blossoms bloom, the fresh green leaves emerge, deepening the greenery as the blossoms fade.
While cherry blossoms display their fleeting beauty, the willows provide a long-lasting freshness from spring to autumn.
The willow path stretches 2.5 km along the Hapdeok pond.
Since 2012, over 1,000 trees, including royal willows and weeping willows, have been planted.
Now, after more than ten years, these trees have matured into a beautiful pathway.
On either side of the trail, the thickly growing trees stretch their branches, creating a forest tunnel.
Under the trees, sunlight is filtered, and the breeze is refreshing.
The willow grove curves inward beneath the embankment, cutting through the walking path and forming a lush green band over the wide lake.
This serves as a boundary between the wetland and the walking path, with small gardens filled with various plants nearby.
As the greenery deepens in mid-summer, even more vibrant landscapes are expected.
Currently, Hapdeok Waterside Park is undergoing seasonal transformations, with various trails being developed alongside seasonal flower plantings.
As the seasons change, the encounters with cherry blossoms, lotus flowers, and swans become even more delightful.
The Hapdeok willow grove is the perfect walking trail to enjoy a refreshing stroll along 2.5 km.
The stunning scenery of Hapdeokje, combined with diverse landscapes, creates a sense of coolness and charm beneath the lush branches.
This was a pleasant walking journey that cleared my mind and refreshed my spirit, making it a recommended route to forget the early summer heat.
