Exploring the Beauty of Hadduck Cathedral

Last winter, I visited Hadduck Cathedral in Dangjin for the first time during snowfall and was completely captivated by its charm.
I was curious about its appearance now, filled with the lush greenery of summer.
In July, it showcased the vibrant hues of summer.
Hadduck Cathedral, established in 1890, has stood for over 130 years as a historic church in the Chungcheong Province.
Its Gothic architecture, steeped in over a century of history, makes it a captivating site to visit at any time.
However, if you are planning to visit Hadduck Cathedral now, there is one important thing to note.
Currently, renovations are underway inside the cathedral.
Unfortunately, I couldn't see the interior, but I still captured the beauty of Hadduck Cathedral.
The main building, with its two twin towers rising under the clear sky and the harmony of red bricks, boasts an exotic yet overwhelming beauty.
Even after visiting again, its stunning visuals leave me in awe.
The renovation is scheduled from June 8 (Monday) to July 24 (Friday).
During this period, access to the interior of the cathedral is restricted, but Mass will be held in the 'lecture hall behind the outdoor stage.'
While you can still take beautiful photos against the grand exterior, those wishing to participate in the interior tours or Mass should check the renovation schedule before planning their visit.
As you walk under the green shade of trees in the cathedral's front yard, two sculptures catch your eye.
One is the statue of the Virgin Mary gently holding a baby, and next to it stands the bust of 'Good Shepherd Father Baek Moon-fil Philippo.'
Father Baek Moon-fil is a significant figure in the history of Hadduck Cathedral, having been martyred while protecting the church and its congregation during the Korean War.
Next to the sacristy, there is a cozy lounge where you can take a break.
It’s perfect for cooling off and enjoying a moment of quiet while walking through the outdoor garden filled with greenery.
The Bugnae Pilgrimage Trail starts from Hadduck Cathedral and leads to the Sinri Sacred Site, a Catholic walking pilgrimage path.
Beyond its religious significance, this walking route is popular among travelers for its picturesque rural paths and beautiful natural scenery.
At each major stop along the trail, there are stamp boxes, making it fun to collect stamps in your notebook or pilgrimage booklet.
Moving a bit further from the lounge, a unique metal structure stands tall against the backdrop of a green pine forest.
This is the outdoor bell tower, another highlight of Hadduck Cathedral.
With several bells layered upon one another, this exotic bell tower serves as a new photo spot as well.
Next to the bell tower, the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue watches over the village from atop the cathedral.
The ongoing interior renovations are expected to conclude by July 24 (Friday), so those planning to visit should keep this timeframe in mind to avoid any inconvenience.
Looking forward to the even more beautiful Hadduck Cathedral after the renovations, I plan to return to see it in its complete form.
With its beautiful cathedral scenery and well-maintained walking paths, it’s a healing travel destination, so I highly recommend stopping by Hadduck Cathedral if you visit Dangjin.
