Exploring the Beauty of Gyuam Yeobawi Village in Buyeo

Hello, citizens of Chungnam!
And to all the travelers seeking the beauty of local seasons!
I am here to deliver vibrant and in-depth information about every corner of Chungnam.
On a refreshing early summer afternoon, I visited a beautiful village known for its ideal walking paths along the blue Baekma River.
Today, I would like to introduce you to Gyuam Yeobawi Village, a historical site filled with the legends of Baekje and the steadfast spirit of Confucian scholars, which is now beautifully reborn with rich crafts and culture!
As part of the '2026 Craft Week', the riverside was adorned with a romantic flea market and unique outdoor picnics!
Shall we dive into the early summer scenery of Gyuam Village, where the past and present blend beautifully?
History 01: Gyuam Yeobawi Village Then and Now
Located in Gyuam-myeon, Buyeo-gun, Chungnam, Gyuam Yeobawi Village was once a crucial point for the transportation of goods from Jeolla Province and the west coast to Hanseong via the Geumgang River.
Though it lost its function as a ferry terminal with the opening of Baekje Bridge in 1968, it has now beautifully transformed into a vibrant space for crafts and local culture.
Legend has it that the large rock known as 'Jaonde' warms itself. According to the Samguk Yusa, during winter, the king of Baekje would rest at this rock while heading to Yeongheungsa Temple, and it would warm itself to welcome him.
On top of Jaonde, you will find 'Subukjeong', a pavilion built by the Confucian scholar Kim Heung-guk during the reign of King Gwanghaegun. He refused to join the Injo Restoration forces and returned to his hometown to spend his later years in scholarly pursuits.
From Subukjeong, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Baekma River and Baekje Bridge!
Festival 02: Encountering 'Seasonal Delights' at Buyeo Gyuam During 2026 Craft Week
This historic Yeobawi Village is once again filled with vitality thanks to the efforts of craft artists and youth. During my visit, the riverside was transformed into a romantic cultural space for the '2026 Craft Week' event!
The flea market featured crafts, food, and experiences, showcasing unique hats, clothes, handmade rings, scented candles, and pottery reflecting the refreshing colors of early summer.
An outdoor reading picnic was also set up along the riverside, featuring books curated by local independent bookstores, allowing visitors to relax in cozy camping chairs and tents.
This weekend, why not sit by the Baekma River with your family or loved ones, enjoy a good book, and explore unique crafts?
