Must-Visit Places in Goesan County
As autumn arrives, we can enjoy the beautiful nature around us.
The cool breeze and warm sunlight create a pleasant atmosphere, while the fields signal abundance and the mountains and fields are adorned with autumn foliage.
While the sudden arrival of autumn is delightful, there is also a sense of urgency as it may leave just as quickly.
How about a trekking adventure in Goesan during this wonderful season, especially during the holidays from Chuseok to early October?
Goesan is home to pristine nature spots like Hwayanggugok, Galonggugok, and Seonyugugok, as well as trekking routes such as the Sanmaki Old Road and the Chungcheongdo Yangban Road.
You can enjoy various activities like leaf-peeping, trekking, and leisurely walks.
Among these, I quickly explored the easy trail of the Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge, which is accessible to everyone.
The Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge is located midway along a path leading from the Goesan Dam to Galon Village.
With a total length of 167 meters and a walkway length of 134 meters, it features a width of 2.1 meters, with a straight main tower and an arch-shaped main tower facing each other.
This beautiful bridge connects the Sanmaki Old Road and the Chungcheongdo Yangban Road.
If you enjoy just the Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge, it takes about 30 minutes, but connecting it with the other trails can make for a 2-hour trek.
From the Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge, the starting point of the Chungcheongdo Yangban Road is just 200 meters away, with Galonggugok and Sanmaki Village each being 1.8 km and 1.4 km away.
Goesan Lake also offers boat tours.
However, due to low water levels, the boat currently only operates between the Chadol Rock and the Sanmaki Village section.
The boat fare is 5,000 won for the Chadol Rock - Sanmaki Village - Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge route and 7,000 won for the Chadol Rock - Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge route.
Beneath the Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge, a white sandy beach unfolds, leading to a clear waterway.
The water is clear, and the sand is clean, surrounded by lush forests.
This is a trekking course that connects to the Sanmaki Old Road and the Chungcheongdo Yangban Road.
Among the many scenic spots in Goesan, Yeonhakgugok once existed but became submerged during the construction of the Goesan Dam, making its name unfamiliar today.
The name Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge originates from Yeonhakgugok.
This autumn, a performance will unfold in Goesan, telling the forgotten stories of Yeonhakgugok.
On October 31, a two-part performance will be held at the Goesan Culture and Arts Center.
It will showcase an unfinished song left by a scholar from Joseon 100 years ago and a girl who ran away because she could not hear that sound, introducing the hidden stories of common people against the beautiful backdrop of Goesan's Yeonhakgugok.
You might enjoy meeting Yeonhakgugok through a creative musical this autumn.
At the midpoint of the Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the wide waters of Goesan Lake.
Both the upstream and downstream landscapes have their unique charms, and with the current low water level, white sandy beaches are revealed.
Whether there is a lot of water or a little, every season is beautiful.
Despite the low water level, the Goesan Dam continues to release water, likely due to seasonal issues.
Crossing the Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge leads to the start of the 1.2 km Sanmaki Old Road and the round trip of the 4.2 km Bride and Groom Trail.
For the Sanmaki Old Road course, you can choose to walk 1.2 km to Sanmaki Village and then board a boat or trek for about 2 hours and 30 minutes to the Chadol Rock dock.
If the Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge seems a bit short, you can combine it with the Chungcheongdo Yangban Road suspension bridge and Galonggugok.
The suspension bridge, where the Chungcheongdo Yangban Road begins, is just a 5-minute walk from the parking lot of the cloud bridge.
Since there are no parking spaces nearby, you will need to use the Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge parking lot.
The Chungcheongdo Yangban Road is a walking course that starts from the end of the Sanmaki Old Road, connecting Galon, Hwayang, Seonyu, and Ssangokgugok with a total of 9 courses over 85 km. Currently, 4 sections totaling 25 km have been developed.
Among them, the course starting from the Yangban Road suspension bridge is connected to Ungyo-ri.
After crossing the suspension bridge, I took a short walk, but the mountain path was steep and narrow.
Before crossing the suspension bridge, the Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge was just about 200 meters away, but it felt much farther after crossing.
The Chungcheongdo Yangban Road goes up rather than alongside, making it feel increasingly distant.
When walking the Chungcheongdo Yangban Road, I will need to prepare well for the journey.
The Galonggugok, which was introduced alongside the Chungcheongdo Yangban Road, starts at the end of Galon Village, crossing the Galon Bridge.
There are a total of 3 courses, connecting Galun Dongmun, Jangam Seoksil, Gangseondae, Okryubyeok, Geumbyeong, and Seongukam to form 9 scenic spots.
Although the autumn valley had low water levels, the sound of water flowing gently was pleasant, and the surroundings began to show signs of autumn foliage.
From the Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge, the open view of Goesan Lake is beautiful, and the trekking along the Sanmaki Old Road and Chungcheongdo Yangban Road begins. There are various ways to experience autumn.
The Yeonhakgyeol Cloud Bridge is located at 100 Myeongtaejae-ro, Chilseong-myeon, Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do.
