Exploring Ibam Reservoir in Gyeryong City

Ibam-ri, Duma-myeon, Gyeryong City.
The name might sound a bit unfamiliar, right?
I also passed by this place without a second thought, but once I visited, I found it to be a quiet spot for healing.
Locally, it is known as 'Ibamji' or by its older name, Seonbawi Reservoir.

Ibam (立巖) translates to 'Seonbawi' in Korean.
Originally, it was used solely as a fishing spot for over 20 years,
but in 2017, it transformed into a lakeside park equipped with benches, pavilions, and decks,
becoming a representative healing walking area of Gyeryong.
As soon as you enter, a Metasequoia tree-lined path welcomes you.
Though it is only about 100 meters long,
that short stretch has a significant impact.
Stepping into the row of tall trees, you can feel a change in the air and a sense of comfort.
Walking along the dirt path under the shade of the trees,
you can smell the phytoncide and feel your sweat cooling down.
Even in the hot summer, it was surprisingly cool.
As you walk, a red heart sculpture appears.
This photo spot, labeled 'Gyeryong City Iban Reservoir,'
captures the deck path, the reservoir, and the Metasequoia forest all at once.
The beautiful background makes it impossible for anyone to pass by without stopping.
If you come with kids, taking a photo with them sitting on this heart is the best.
After passing through the Metasequoia path, you reach the lakeside deck path,
which is the highlight of this reservoir.
Walking along the wooden deck floating above the reservoir,
you can look up and see rows of Metasequoia trees on both sides,
their reflections shimmering on the water's surface.
The sight of green trees mirroring on the water is truly magazine-worthy.
Standing by the deck railing and looking down, you will be surprised.
Large fish swim in schools below.
Even just extending a finger will attract them.
Throwing food in, dozens of fish rush in, making even adults shout in excitement.
Kids, of course, won't want to leave.
Sitting at the octagonal pavilion or on the benches along the deck, just gazing at the waves is enough to feel healed.
This reservoir's true charm lies in being a space where you can do nothing and just relax.
The entire circular path is modest at 965 meters, allowing for leisurely walks and breaks.
With views of Daedunsan and Gyeryongsan in sight,
I enjoyed a moment of rest provided by nature.
After the walk, if you feel a bit hungry or crave a cup of coffee,
there's a perfect spot right at the entrance of the reservoir.
The Youth Cafe & Pension is located there.
The first and second floors operate as a cafe, while the third and fourth floors are a pension,
offering a view filled with greenery that makes a cup of coffee feel twice as valuable.
There are also restaurants serving BBQ and meat nearby.
When you visit, you’ll see signs for BBQ and camping,
and enjoying grilled meat in the lush nature is quite a delightful combination.
It’s a perfect plan for a family outing to walk around and have a meal here.
In this season when greenery is at its peak,
if you're considering a trip to Gyeryong, I recommend visiting Iban Reservoir first.
You don’t have to go far or do anything extravagant; just walk,
sit and gaze at the water, and simply breathe to recharge.
