Exploring Geochang Traditional Market

On June 11th, I visited Geochang Traditional Market on its market day.
You can park for free at the outdoor riverside parking lot, but it can get crowded on market days, so I recommend using the indoor parking instead.
When using the market facilities, you receive a 30-minute free parking voucher, which can be applied up to three times.
The market days are on dates that include the numbers 1 and 6, while the market is closed on the 2nd and 17th of each month.
In 2026, Geochang Traditional Market was selected as one of the three cultural tourism markets at the county level, which is expected to increase the influx of external tourists.
Among all the initiatives, I believe developing representative local food products is the top priority.
From June 10th to 14th, there is also a refund event for Onnuri gift certificates supported by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
The refund is available from 9 AM to 5 PM, so make sure to visit the refund event location within this time frame.
✔️ Purchase amount 34,000 KRW => Refund amount 10,000 KRW
✔️ Purchase amount 67,000 KRW => Refund amount 20,000 KRW
During the event period, each person can receive a maximum of 20,000 KRW (no double claims allowed).
The location of the refund event was well-marked throughout the market, making it easy to find.
The scenery of Geochang Market is a must-see when visiting Geochang.
I was able to buy a dozen eggs for 6,000 to 6,500 KRW, which is cheaper than at supermarkets.
Fresh clams caught from the clear waters of Geochang Valley are also for sale.
During the summer season, you can find watermelon, melons, and peaches.
Since it was lunchtime, I decided to have a bowl of cold noodles at Matna Gimbap.
Even though the door was closed and the air conditioner was running, I thought it would be cool inside, so I went in.
At Matna Gimbap in Geochang Market, a roll of gimbap costs only 3,000 KRW.
The cold noodles are 6,000 KRW, and the homemade kimchi was really delicious.
The origin label indicated that the napa cabbage and red pepper powder were locally sourced, which made me trust the quality even more.
After finishing my meal, when I mentioned the parking voucher, they generously gave me two vouchers.
I also purchased beef at the Geochang Livestock Auction House.
Even with my hands full of groceries, the prices were reasonable and not burdensome.
Next, I headed to the Onnuri gift certificate refund event location.
The refund event for seafood products, supported by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, is taking place next to the customer rest area of the market.
There are 13 participating stores in the Geochang Market Onnuri gift certificate event.
The participating stores are marked in red, making it easy to confirm before entering.
One of the participating stores is Woongyang Dried Seafood, where you can buy either seafood or dried fish.
At Woongi Seafood, they specialize in selling shellfish and live fish, so visitors to Geochang can enjoy sashimi and get a refund.
At Gangyeong Jeotgal, you can buy salted fish, seaweed, and dried anchovies, which are also eligible for refunds.
When making a purchase, be sure to inform the owner that you will participate in the seafood refund event so they can register your number on their phone.
With only one day left for the Onnuri refund event, I hope many people visit Geochang Traditional Market to buy delicious food and take advantage of the refunds.
