Explore Korea's Coolest Caves This Summer

If you're looking to escape the early summer heat starting in June, visiting the cool caves around the country is a perfect option. These indoor attractions are unaffected by rain and offer a variety of sights along with mysterious landscapes, making them great for family outings or romantic getaways.
This summer, we’ve selected four must-visit cave destinations that are sure to attract visitors. By taking advantage of online booking discounts and choosing the best times to visit, you can ensure a more satisfying trip.
Gwangmyeong Cave: Perfect for a Day Trip from the Capital Region
Gwangmyeong Cave is easily accessible from the capital region, making it a popular spot for day trips among office workers and families. The entrance fee is 10,000 KRW for adults, but you can get up to 50% off by booking in advance through online portals, making it a great value. The cave features various themed areas such as Aqua World, Golden Waterfall, and Wine Cave, ensuring there’s never a dull moment.
On weekends or during the peak season in June, the parking lot fills up quickly, so it's advisable to arrive before 10 AM. The parking fee is a maximum of 10,000 KRW per day, and exploring the cave will take at least an hour, so be sure to bring a light jacket.
The Majestic Hwanseongul Cave: A 500 Million-Year Journey via Monorail
Located in Samcheok, Gangwon-do, Hwanseongul Cave is the largest limestone cave in Korea, holding a 530 million-year-old mystery that surprises visitors with its grandeur. The entrance fee is 4,500 KRW for adults, and keep in mind that the cave is closed on the 18th of each month.
Instead of hiking up the steep entrance, you can take the round-trip monorail for 7,000 KRW, making it an easy visit for families. During the summer, ticket sales close around 5 PM, and there is ample free parking, making it ideal for large family trips.
Danyang Gosu Cave: 10% Discount with Advance Booking
Designated as a natural monument, Danyang Gosu Cave features stunning rock formations that create an overwhelming spectacle in Chungbuk. The on-site entrance fee is 11,000 KRW, but you can book in advance for a 10% discount, bringing the price down to 9,900 KRW, providing exceptional value.
However, the metal stairs inside the cave can be narrow and steep, so wearing comfortable sneakers is essential. The cave usually closes around 5 PM or 5:30 PM in the summer, so it's best to visit early. After your tour, you can head to the nearby Danyang Market for a taste of local delicacies.
Wooljin Seongryugul: Affordable Coastal Adventure at 5,000 KRW
Lastly, we recommend the historic Wooljin Seongryugul, said to have been visited by King Jinheung of Silla. With an entrance fee of just 5,000 KRW for adults, it significantly reduces travel costs, and its unique entrance photo zone has made it a hot spot among the younger crowd.
During the summer, it operates until 6 PM, making it a great stop after a coastal drive. After exploring Seongryugul, you can visit nearby Jukbyeon Port or the Heart Beach set from the drama 'Into the Storm' to complete a romantic day along the East Coast.
