Embracing the Last Moments of Autumn at Onbit Natural Recreation Forest

The short autumn season is fleeting.
Located at 311-6 Hansamcheon-ri, Beolgok-myeon, Nonsan-si, Chungcheongnam-do,
Autumn was in full swing.
Knowing the short autumn would soon end, I wanted to experience the autumn mountains today.
So, I visited Nonsan Onbit Natural Recreation Forest.
I was excited to see what kind of autumn scenery awaited us.
▲ Parking
Cars were already parked along the roadside from the entrance.
This made me realize how popular this place is.
Following the parking attendant's guidance, we entered, but there was a lot of roadside parking, perhaps because the parking lot was small, and the ground wasn't paved.
We managed to park on the side of the road.
Walking to the end of the parking area, there was a bit more parking space.
The parking lot was indeed small compared to the number of visitors.
Surprisingly, this place is privately owned.
Welcome to Onbit Natural Recreation Forest.
This is private property.
With the desire to share the light, wind, and scents
with many citizens,
it has been open to the public free of charge for a long time.
We ask that visitors treat this space with care,
sharing in this spirit.

I was surprised by two things here.
First, I was amazed that private property was opened to the public with such generosity, and second, I was surprised by how vast the private property was.
Since it's open with good intentions, it would be nice if we could enjoy it and leave with happy memories.
▲ Food
There were no stores inside, but there were a few food trucks.
There was a skewer truck, a coffee truck, and a healthy juice truck.
We didn't eat anything, but the smell of meat grilling over charcoal from the skewer truck was delicious.
▲ Entrance Path
Walking along the path with other people, the colors of the trees planted on the left were artistic.
It wasn't just one color but showed colors like a gradient.
I thought people come to see this scenery.
▲ Lake View
As we went up, a small lake appeared.
I thought again, "Ah, this is what people come to see."
The water in the lake was stagnant, so it had a green hue.
The green lake, the red maple leaves near the lake, the orange-colored trees, and the still-green trees created a fantastic harmony of colors.
There's a small house near the lake, reminiscent of a house in a European village, and many people were taking photos with it as a backdrop.
The area around the lake was especially crowded because it was great for taking pictures.
▲ Metasequoia Trees
There were many metasequoia trees in Onbit Natural Recreation Forest.
Their tall, straight appearance is impressive, but they were even more charming when colored orange.
Let's take a look at what kind of tree the metasequoia is.
◆ Metasequoia
In its native habitat, it grows up to 35m tall, and the bark is grayish-brown and peels off vertically.
The branches spread horizontally, and the leaves are arranged in two rows, opposite each other, and are linear, 10-23mm long and 1.5-2mm wide.
The ends are pointed, and they turn brown or red in autumn. The flowers bloom in February and March on the same tree, with male flowers in racemes at the ends of branches in the leaf axils, drooping downwards, with 20 stamens.
Female flowers are at the ends of branches and bloom in March. The fruit is a cone, 18-25mm long, round, brown, and opens to release elliptical seeds with wings.
It is a deciduous coniferous tree native to China and distributed in Korea, China, etc., and is mainly planted as a park tree. (Source: Naver Encyclopedia)
After reading about the tree, I realized that I haven't had the chance to observe the leaves of the metasequoia tree closely because they are so tall.
It's a tree that blooms and bears fruit. While walking in Onbit Natural Recreation Forest, small, elongated brown metasequoia leaves were falling in the wind.
▲ Why Are You Here?
We walked up the trail past the lake.
Then, I saw a Dol Hareubang (stone grandfather statue) on the trail.
Why are you here?
A little further on, I saw a herbivorous dinosaur, a Brachiosaurus, in front of the hiking trail sign.
Why are you here?
Across from it, a Tyrannosaurus Rex was holding a stick someone had stuck in its hand and shouting.
You're here too?
It seems they were placed there for children walking with their parents.
But I don't know why the Dol Hareubang, which should be in Jeju Island, is here. lol
▲ Cypress Forest and Mountain Path
We walked up and up along the trail.
It was nice to see couples walking arm in arm through the beautiful forest paths, and it was also nice to walk through the paths lined with cypress trees.
I also enjoyed the luxury of walking through a forest path covered with fallen leaves that no one had touched.
After taking a walk around Onbit Natural Recreation Forest, I felt refreshed by the energy of the forest.
I recommend that you visit Onbit Natural Recreation Forest before autumn is completely gone.
You can experience healing in nature and all the colors of autumn.
