The Cheongok Golden Bat Cave is a hidden natural wonder located in Donghae, Gangwon Province, where visitors can escape the scorching summer heat without venturing deep into the mountains. This mystical cave, situated right next to apartment complexes and roads, offers a refreshing atmosphere all year round, making it a popular destination for family outings and filial trips with parents.

Accidentally discovered in 1991 during excavation for nearby apartments, the cave revealed a vast underground world that had remained unknown until then. After years of maintenance, it has been transformed into a safe viewing facility. Approximately 810 meters of the cave, which stretches a total length of 1,510 meters, is open to the public, showcasing a natural limestone cave that has been preserved for 400 to 500 million years, leaving a strong impression on visitors.

Upon entering the cave, visitors are greeted by stunning stalactites, stalagmites, and columns illuminated by vibrant lights, creating a mystical ambiance. The 'Yongsikgu,' a unique trench-like structure on the ceiling, is the largest of its kind in South Korea, captivating the attention of all who enter. The walking paths are well-maintained for easy access, accommodating visitors of all ages, although some narrow sections may require bending down. Safety helmets are provided, allowing guests to explore and capture unique photos of nature's artistry.

Nearly half of the cave's 700-meter section is a restricted conservation area, home to the endangered golden bat, a natural monument designated as a first-class endangered species. This area is meticulously managed to protect the ecosystem. After exploring the underground, visitors can seamlessly transition to the surface, where a natural learning and experience park awaits. The trail, approximately 785 meters long, features a unique doline path and a garden filled with over 100 species of wildflowers, allowing guests to enjoy the beauty of both the underground and above-ground environments.

Entry fees are very affordable, with adults paying 5,000 won, teenagers and military personnel 3,000 won, and children and seniors 2,000 won. Parking is also economical, with a daily fee of only 1,000 won for small vehicles. Public transportation is convenient, with city buses 151 and 153 stopping near the cave. The cave operates daily from 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM, although hours may vary during peak summer season, so checking in advance is recommended.
