Discovering Sodam Nakji in Jeongju, Korea

Today, I would like to introduce Sodam Nakji, located in Gwanghye-won-myeon, Jincheon, Chungbuk. This restaurant specializes in stir-fried octopus and has been selected as an exemplary restaurant for the first half of 2025.

Sodam Nakji Gwanghyeon is conveniently located right next to a GS Caltex gas station, making it easy to find. It is about 16 km and a 15-minute drive from Jincheon County Hall, with straightforward roads that even beginner drivers can navigate easily.
Initially, I thought there was only a small parking lot in front of the restaurant, but I discovered a large parking area in the back. I was surprised to find the restaurant nearly full when I opened the door, as there were not many cars parked outside.
At the entrance, there was a plaque indicating that the restaurant is an exemplary establishment, along with its business hours. Sodam Nakji operates from 11 AM to 9 PM, with a break time from 3 PM to 5 PM. Please note that the restaurant is closed every Saturday.
The interior is entirely set up for standing dining, which was convenient, but due to the crowd, I couldn't take any photos inside. The menu is divided into rice pot and iron plate dishes, with the latter available only after 5 PM. After some deliberation, we ordered two servings of cheese stir-fried octopus on a stone plate and a steamed egg. We chose the medium spice level, akin to Shin Ramyeon, as we are not accustomed to very spicy food.
The side dishes that accompanied our order included spicy stir-fried octopus, a refreshing muk salad, perilla leaves, and pickled radish. The large plate is used to serve the rice from the stone pot to mix with the octopus.
As we enjoyed the muk salad, the stone plate cheese stir-fried octopus arrived. The cheese on top looked abundant, but it was just the right amount once mixed in, and the octopus was spicier than expected.
The octopus was whole, allowing us to cut it to our desired size. It was incredibly chewy, and the sweet umami flavor of the seafood was delightful.
Next, the steamed egg came out fluffy and paired perfectly with the stir-fried octopus. However, since my tongue was already feeling the heat, I had to let it cool down before eating.
The rice in the stone pot was served on a plate with water added, making it perfect for enjoying as a soothing soup afterward.
If you need more side dishes, you can use the self-service bar, but please note that you need to request muk salad and seaweed from the staff.
If you're looking for a delicious stir-fried octopus spot in Jincheon Gwanghyeon, Sodam Nakji is worth a visit for its spiciness, texture, and presentation, all of which are exceptional. One bite will leave you wanting more!
