Discovering Haenam: A Journey to the End of Korea

Hello, this is Korail Tourism Development.
Today, we introduce the ninth story from our media coverage,
featuring a travel story about Haenam, Jeollanam-do, as presented by Asia Today.
When you think of Haenam, the first place that comes to mind is likely 'Dangkkeut' or 'the Land's End'.
However, as you follow this article, you might realize that Haenam is not just 'the end of the Korean Peninsula' but also a place where new paths begin.
From delicious food to ancient temples,
the Korea Dulle-gil trail, and filming locations!
Shall we embark on a journey to Haenam together?
When in Haenam, you must try the 'Chicken Course Meal'.
Haenam offers a unique chicken dish known as the 'Chicken Course Meal'.
You can enjoy various preparations of a whole chicken, from grilled to bulgogi, boiled, and porridge.
It's a delightful experience to savor so many dishes from a single ingredient.
This is truly a 'course that lets you enjoy everything about chicken'.
In the areas of Yeondong-ri and Samsan-myeon in Haenam,
there's a chicken village that has been established since the 1970s.
What’s a trip without enjoying good food?
Haenam is a must-visit for food lovers.
Dangkkeut is not just the end but also a connection point for the Korea Dulle-gil trail.
At Dangkkeut Tower, the Seohae-gil and Nampah-gil trails meet.
What you thought was the end is actually a new beginning.
As you walk slowly, even the scenery you usually overlook becomes more noticeable.
Take a moment to rest at the ancient temple Mihwangsa, founded in 749 AD.
Here, you can find patterns depicting sea creatures like crabs and turtles.
This connects to the legend of Mihwangsa's founding through the sea.
Listening to these old stories is another joy of traveling.
Another story not to miss during your Haenam trip is the movie 'Hope'.
Namchang-ri in Bukpyeong-myeon is one of the main filming locations for 'Hope'.
The background of the DMZ's Hopohang was recreated here.
The traces of the actors who stayed here for about three months remain,
and it has now become a cultural street for the film.
If you visit after watching the movie, you might find yourself saying,
'Oh? This is the place from the movie!'
Even if you haven't seen the film,
strolling through this quiet southern village while enjoying a cup of tea is delightful.
Haenam's movie stories don't end here.
Next, let’s visit Uldolmok, the backdrop of the movie 'Myeongnyang'.
This is the actual site of the Battle of Myeongnyang, where General Lee Soon-shin defeated the Japanese navy.
You can walk the trails around the Ussuyeong National Tourist Site or
take the skywalk to view the currents of Uldolmok up close.
For a wider view, take the Myeongnyang Cable Car to enjoy the scenery of Jindo Bridge and Uldolmok.
Experiencing stories you've only read in history books at the actual site is the essence of travel.
So, we have prepared a journey called 'Haenam One Round'.
This train trip allows you to explore Haenam's main tourist attractions in just two days and one night.
It includes departures from Yongsan Station in Seoul as well as from Busan and Gyeongsang regions.
Following the movies 'Hope' and 'Myeongnyang', you can discover Haenam's history,
enjoy the Chicken Course Meal, walk in nature,
and visit filming locations,
while also exploring the history of Uldolmok!
This is what a proper journey around Haenam looks like.
Where will you go this weekend?
Discovering new paths at what you thought was the end,
walking through movie landscapes,
savoring delicious food,
and slowly experiencing old history and nature.
Haenam is a travel destination with much more variety than you might think.
A journey to Haenam by train awaits you!
