Discover the Majestic Duta Mountain Canyon in Donghae

Escape the suffocating city and immerse yourself in the invigorating energy of nature at Duta Mountain in Donghae, Gangwon Province. As summer unfolds, the once-barren cliffs are now lush with vibrant greenery, showcasing the most dynamic scenery of the year.
The canyon section from Beteul Rock to Yongchu Waterfall captivates visitors with its expansive views and towering vertical cliffs. Walking along the suspended deck path, you can enjoy the refreshing breeze, making it a popular trekking route during the summer.
The most thrilling moment of the trek occurs on the 470m high Geumgangsan Rock, where the majestic deck path resembles a skyscraper. The bizarre rock formations that flank the trail evoke a sense of grandeur, providing a liberating feeling with every step.
As you pass the intricately crafted wooden stairs along the cliff line, you'll encounter the stunning waterfalls of Ssangpokpo and Yongchu, where the powerful cascades and refreshing mist wash away the fatigue of hiking.
Continuing along the valley trail, you'll reach Beteul Rock at an elevation of 550m, a stunning geological formation that resembles a weaving loom. Legend has it that a fairy once descended to repent and weave silk here.
Standing at the viewpoint of the towering cliffs, the striking contrast between the gray rocks and green pines captures the eye. The panoramic view from this elevated area offers an unforgettable spectacle that transcends mere hiking.
For safety and convenience, it is recommended to start your hike before 1 PM. The skyscraper circuit is a moderate 4.7km trek that typically takes 4 to 6 hours to complete. Given the steep ascents and rugged paths, it is advisable to wear trekking shoes that provide ankle support and to carry trekking poles to ease knee strain.
Once you enter the steep ascent past the Murung Rock section, there are no shops or drink stations, so be sure to bring enough ice water and electrolyte drinks before your hike. Additionally, since the sun sets early in the mountains, it is safest to enter the trail no later than 1 PM for a secure descent.
