As the high blue sky and cool breeze arrive,
it’s the season that naturally makes one long for a good book.
Autumn has returned.
With the heat of summer fading away,
it’s a perfect time for reflection.
That’s why autumn has historically been called the season of reading.
Located in the western part of Dangjin City,
the Dangjin Library, part of the Chungcheongnam-do Dangjin Education Support Office,
opened its doors in 1974 as the Dangjin County Library
and was renamed in 2019.
This public library has been a companion to local residents for over half a century.
Currently, it houses approximately 97,000 materials,
serving as a knowledge haven where everyone from children to seniors
can comfortably engage with books.
September is particularly special as the library celebrates Reading Month,
making it an ideal time to feel the charm of books.
In this article, we will introduce the Dangjin Library,
a great place to visit this autumn.
Established in 1974, this library has maintained a clean and inviting atmosphere
despite its age.
Upon entering the first floor, you will find a space dedicated to
children’s picture book exhibitions.
By utilizing the library’s open space to showcase original illustrations
that children love,
the library has transformed each area into a valuable cultural space.
In September, various events are held to celebrate Reading Month,
so be sure to visit the library and enjoy the season.
The library consists of three floors.
The second floor houses the general materials room,
where nearly half of the library’s collection is dedicated to literature,
providing a wide range of reading options.
Anyone can read on-site, and with a library card,
you can borrow up to 20 books for 15 days.
The internal space is well-designed for enjoying reading,
so even if you don’t borrow books,
you can still relish the autumn atmosphere.
Although the café was not operating during my visit,
there was an appealing space available.
The 'Book Café' encourages reading activities,
offering free coffee to those who present receipts for borrowing two or more books.
It’s a great way to enjoy reading without having to go far.
This autumn, I recommend visiting the Dangjin Library
with your family to find relaxation and comfort within the pages of a book.
I hope the library continues to be a reliable place for learning
that brings the joy of reading closer to the community.
