Visited in July 2025
Today, I'd like to introduce a place that is
a famous landmark in eastern Jeju and
a really great place for
an autumn forest walk.
Bijarim Forest, which was also selected as the
eighteenth location for the Stamp Tour Season 2 of the
2025 Jeju National Heritage Visit Year.
<2025 Jeju National Heritage Visit Year _ Stamp Tour>?
The term 'Cultural Properties' has been changed to 'National Heritage'
(May 17, 2024)
It is a pilot program in Jeju in 2025 that is designed to allow visitors to explore major national heritage sites in Jeju by
planning seasonal themes using Jeju's natural, cultural, and intangible heritage.
It has the advantage of killing two birds with one stone, as you can promote national heritage and receive souvenirs by using the stamp tour.
1. Why was it selected as a National Heritage site?

2025 Jeju National Heritage Visit Year
Stamp Tour / Season 2- 18
The theme of Season 2 is Jeju's Nature
25 locations are selected each season
There are various types, including intangible heritage, cultural heritage, and natural heritage.
Among them,
Bijarim Forest was selected as a Natural Heritage site.
A total of 2,570 Torreya nucifera trees are planted
in the southwest of Pyeongdae-ri, eastern Jeju.
(Approximately 300 to 600 years old)
It is believed that the Bijarim Forest of today was formed when the Torreya nucifera seeds, which were used in ancestral rites in the village in the old days,
were scattered in all directions after the rites and took root.
It is believed that the Torreya nucifera has been well preserved because it has been used as a medicinal herb since ancient times.
Pyeongdae Bijarim Forest is
designated and protected as a Natural Monument because of its globally large size and high academic value as a Torreya nucifera forest,
and has therefore been selected as a National Heritage site.
It is a place that can never be left out
when talking about Jeju's nature.

2. If you could express Bijarim Forest in one sentence?

Bijarim Forest is not just a beautiful forest, but
a colony of Torreya nucifera trees that have grown for over 1,000 years,
and it is one of the oldest Torreya nucifera forests in Korea,
so I think it can be described as
a space of awe created by a millennium of time.

🗰 Bijarim Forest Viewing Points
✔️ Explore 2,570 Torreya nucifera trees that are 300 to 600 years old
✔️ Feel the awe of nature in the lush Torreya nucifera forest created over a millennium of time

✔️ Learn about the history and medicinal value of the Torreya nucifera tree
Entrance
After passing the parking lot
and passing the ticket office at the entrance,
the path continues
to the entrance of the Bijarim Forest walking course.
As I have lived in Jeju for 10 years,
I have visited several times
from spring to winter.

I visited in July this year,
and purple hydrangeas were in bloom at this time,
so I walked along a beautiful flower path.
On the promenade leading up to the start of the forest trail,
there are many photo zones in between,
such as a heart-shaped Euonymus japonica photo zone that says Bijarim Forest.

Also, the guide
explains the history of the Torreya nucifera tree and the Bijarim Forest,
so if you see a group gathered,
be sure to go and listen to the explanation.
You can see a Torreya nucifera tree that was struck by lightning in the middle.
This tree had a female tree and a male tree
standing side by side, but only the male tree was struck by lightning.
According to hearsay, the male tree protected the female tree
with its whole body, so they are said to be a loving couple.
Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the female tree,
so it was able to continue its life.

This tree, which says Millennium Forest Bijarim at the start of the forest trail,
was made from Pinus thunbergii that lived with the Torreya nucifera tree for 100 years and then died.
🗰 Bijarim Forest Walking Course
✔️ Course A: 2.2km
A course that takes you around in a short loop
(Strollers and wheelchairs are allowed)

✔️ Course B: 2.2km + 1km
Course A + stone path
A course where you can feel a deeper green

I mainly walk Course A.
It is well maintained with volcanic ash paths and deck paths,
so it is accessible by strollers and wheelchairs.
The scent of Torreya nucifera trees and the chirping of birds
that brushes against your nose from the entrance
made me feel like I was walking through a forest in a fairy tale.

Every time I walked on the volcanic ash path,
I felt the unique sensation of the volcanic ash rustling under my feet,
and the sound of the leaves rustling in the wind
made my heart feel at peace.

I prayed in front of the
New Millennium Torreya nucifera tree that grants wishes.

Last fall, I took a photo
with my parents who came to visit
in front of another tree.
A must-see when you come to Bijarim Forest
is the connected trees!

Two trees grow
and their branches meet and grow together,
making it look as if they were
one tree from birth.

In addition to Torreya nucifera trees,
there are various vegetation and maple trees,
making it the perfect place for an autumn forest walk.

As you walk, breathing in the phytoncides
and feeling the Torreya nucifera forest,
you will soon come to a stone wall path.

Follow the stone wall path
and go back to the entrance you came in from.
