A Tranquil Visit to the Gudrae Sculpture Park in Buyeo

Hello! Today, I want to share my experience at the most peaceful place I visited during my trip to Buyeo, Chungcheongnam-do: the Gudrae Sculpture Park.
When you think of Buyeo, you might first recall Jeongnimsa Temple or Gungnamji Pond, but if you're looking for true relaxation and a perfect photo opportunity, this place is a must-visit.
I have visited Buyeo several times, but I was surprised to discover such a beautiful spot, so I wanted to introduce it to you.
Gudrae Sculpture Park is famous for its cherry blossoms. Not only the park but also the nearby Gukyo-ri village is a lovely place for a stroll.
We took a bus, but there isn't a direct bus route from the Buyeo intercity bus terminal. It took us about 14 minutes on foot to reach the park, and the cool weather made for a pleasant walk.
As soon as you enter Gudrae Sculpture Park, the first thing you'll notice is the openness of the space. The endless green lawns and the flowing waters of the Baengma River create a refreshing atmosphere.
The name 'Gudrae' has a charming ring to it. It is derived from a term meaning 'great country' from the Baekje era. True to its name, the park is quite large, making it perfect for children to play and for couples to take a leisurely walk.
On days like this, it's ideal to bring a mat and enjoy a picnic.
What sets this place apart from a regular park is that it is a 'sculpture park.' Over 30 sculptures by renowned domestic and international artists are beautifully integrated throughout the park.
Some pieces explain the history of Buyeo, while others are large circular sculptures. Instead of viewing art in a stiff museum, appreciating it under the blue sky makes it feel much more accessible. Be sure to take photos in front of your favorite pieces in your own unique poses.
Initially, I thought it was a small park, but as I explored, I realized it was quite expansive. Spending about 20 to 30 minutes wandering around was enjoyable. We arrived around 10 AM, and with only a few tourists present, we could quietly admire the cherry blossoms.
One of the biggest advantages of Gudrae Sculpture Park is its connectivity to nearby attractions. Right next to the park is the Gudrae Ferry Terminal. From here, you can take a boat to Nakoham and Goran Temple, and I highly recommend taking a stroll around the park before or after your boat ride. Walking along the riverside with the breeze will be a highlight of your Buyeo trip, especially the stunning riverside view at sunset.
