A 2-night, 3-day summer trip to Yangyang with the family!

We departed at 8 AM and arrived at Naksansa Temple after a 2 hour and 20 minute drive.

The parasol rental was 15,000 won. The kids were a little worried because of the jellyfish last year.

But the temperature, waves, and water depth at Yangyang Naksan Beach were all perfect.

Last year, the water felt a bit cold and the waves seemed high, so we left Naksan Beach and went to Lighthouse Beach. But today, we played in the ocean from morning until 4 PM!

Even though Dogun has grown a lot since last year, he's still a little scared of the waves. He preferred playing in the sand, while Ayang didn't want to leave the water.

Yangyang in Gangwon-do is a place our Doa family visits every year. We love it!

Because there was a chance of rain on the second day, we played as much as we could on the first day.

Our accommodation was near downtown Yangyang. This past April, we stayed at a hotel right in front of Naksan Beach, but the price had gone up significantly. So, the Doa family, always looking for good value, chose a pension.

We ordered mul-naengmyeon (cold noodles in water), bibim-naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles), and suyuk (boiled pork slices) from Naksan Jinmyeonok. But for our cold noodle-loving family, it wasn't that impressive. The kids didn't really like the pollock, and the broth was just okay. The owner was kind, though.

We stopped by the Yangyang market and ordered a half-and-half fried chicken from Cheogatjip Fried Chicken and packed a plate of sliced raw fish.

We enjoyed our first night at the accommodation with ramen.

On the second day, there was a forecast of 4mm of rain. Dogun wanted to see the sunrise, so we woke up at 5 AM. But the sky was cloudy, and Dogun showed no signs of waking up. I went to Seorak Sunrise Park alone, but failed to see the sunrise. It started raining heavily, and it felt like it was going to be a rainy day.

There was a small pool in Naecheon, but it was too shallow, so we passed on it. It was outdoors, so it felt a bit unsafe. The Doa family's choice was Ocean Play at Sol Beach! Boss made an excellent decision!

You can only get a discount by booking online the day before. By signing up for membership and agreeing to receive marketing emails, you can get a 50% discount. It was our first time at Ocean Play, and we were more satisfied than with Ocean World.

Being able to enjoy both the ocean and the swimming pool at the same time was perfect for elementary school kids! But the kids only stayed in the swimming pool. I had to drag them to the ocean for pictures.

There was a sense of being in an independent space, which was nice. Swimming in the rain was romantic!

We devoured sotteok-sotteok (sausage and rice cake skewers), udon, churros, and sausages, and gave it our all until the pool closed at 7 PM. We enjoyed the seawater sauna and then headed back to our accommodation.

It was the second day and our last night. We skipped the BBQ since we eat a lot of meat usually. We enjoyed handmade burgers, raw fish, and Chapagetti (instant black bean noodles).

On the last day, we visited Namae Port Observatory. The weather was nice, and it was tempting to go swimming in the ocean, but we resisted!

We had sundubu (soft tofu stew) and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) at a restaurant in front of Hyuhyuam Temple. As the kids get older, I wonder how many more times we'll be able to come to Yangyang every year. I think about this on this beach.

Special Moment

Let's take good care of our health!

We used to stop by the 38th Parallel Rest Area because of the nice ocean view, but it had been turned into a convenience store. Moreover, the unfriendly service made us feel bad. It's a shame how many things change.

We resisted the temptation to play at Gwangjin Beach or a nearby beach and headed home! So much to do to get ready for everyday life!

And so, our 2025 summer vacation came to an end. I'm reminded once again that the time we spend with our children is precious.
