As the fresh green breeze blows in this season, I would like to introduce a perfect travel course in Dangjin for you to enjoy with your loved ones.

Today, I will introduce the Dangjin Sim Hun Memorial Hall and the Philologist, a very special space where you can vividly feel the passionate life of the great literary figure and independence activist, Sim Hun.

This place is not only rich in historical knowledge but also filled with diverse and fun experience programs that the whole family can participate in and enjoy, making it a popular weekend outing spot.

Moreover, remarkably, the admission is completely free, making it a great place to visit without any burden on weekends.

The visiting hours vary slightly by season; from March to October, it is open from 9 AM to 6 PM, and from November to February, it operates from 9 AM to 5 PM. Please note that there is a lunch break from 12 PM to 1 PM, and the hall is closed on Mondays and during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays, so please check for closure dates before your visit.

A great tip for enjoying the Sim Hun Memorial Hall is to join a guided tour with the cultural tourism guide at the entrance. The friendly and passionate guide is available from 10 AM to 5 PM and shares fascinating stories about Sim Hun’s artistic world and hidden tales related to the independence movement in an easy and enjoyable way.

Reservations for the guided tour can be made until 4 PM, so I highly recommend taking this opportunity to explore with in-depth explanations.

If you are visiting with children, there are exciting activities that you absolutely should not miss.

Currently, the Sim Hun Memorial Hall is running a program called "Finding Local Cultural Heritage" where you can physically experience the history from books. This program is conducted in collaboration with museums in Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungnam, allowing you to receive activity sheets to find cultural heritage from textbooks and engage in thrilling quizzes and missions.

By answering quizzes and collecting three stamps, you can receive a wonderful souvenir, and the first hundred participants who collect eleven stamps will also receive a special gift, so challenge yourself!

Additionally, the outdoor lawn and various areas of the memorial hall feature a popular "Sim Hun Detective Squad" mission, where you can become Sim Dae-seob, the real name of Sim Hun, and search the outdoor courtyard and memorial hall like a detective, completing letters by sticking stickers and posting a certification shot to receive a delightful souvenir.

Inside the memorial hall, there is also a special photo zone where you can physically feel the pain and noble spirit of resistance from that time.

Holding the Korean flag in a narrow, cold prison set or reflecting on the hearts of independence activists allows visitors to capture meaningful and unique life photos, making it a hot spot loved by many.

It is even more meaningful to record and remember a page of hot history through photographs.

The exhibition showcases Sim Hun's life from childhood to adulthood, and listening to the explanations feels like watching a drama.

What makes this trip to Dangjin even more special and valuable is the hope-filled history that Sim Hun cultivated on the rural land of Dangjin.

In 1932, at the age of thirty-two, Sim Hun moved to Dangjin, where his parents lived, built his own literary sanctuary, and devoted himself to finding hope through rural self-reliance.

During his time in Dangjin, he closely interacted with numerous rural youths, joyfully observing their efforts in literacy eradication and improving living conditions, jotting down new and shining ideas in his notebook, a warm habit that has been passed down.

The great fruit born from sweating and breathing alongside the rural youths in Dangjin is the timeless masterpiece novel "Sangroksoo".

His nephew, Sim Jae-young, is also the real-life model for the male protagonist, Park Dong-hyeok, in the novel, adding to the intrigue.

"Sangroksoo," written based on the real lives of youth dedicated to rural enlightenment, holds tremendous value as it demonstrates the strong will of our people to rise up beyond mere resistance.

Especially, this trip to Dangjin is even more special because Sim Hun's original manuscript of "Sangroksoo" has been officially registered as a cultural heritage in Chungcheongnam-do.

The registered artifacts include nine handwritten manuscripts, precious paper manuscripts written in 1935 during the Japanese colonial period. They contain the entirety of the twenty-first chapter and part of the seventy-eighth chapter that were serialized in the Dong-A Ilbo.

Most notably, the use of manuscript paper clearly stamped with the logo of the Chosun Central Daily News and the vivid traces of edits and deletions compared to the newspaper version suggest that it is highly likely the original draft, making it invaluable as a historical resource.

This great cultural heritage, which embodies the passionate will to break free from the realities of colonial rule through the lives of rural enlightenment activists, can now be directly encountered at the Sim Hun Memorial Hall in Dangjin, which is truly heartwarming.

Upon entering the exhibition hall after listening to the explanations, you will be welcomed by vibrant spaces that allow for bodily engagement rather than just visually boring displays, with the Sim Hun Literary Experience Zone being the highlight of this trip.

In this special literary experience zone, you can listen to Sim Hun's great works through headphones, feeling a deep emotional connection as if the poet has come back to life to read his works beside you.

But it doesn't stop there; there are also experiences where visitors can participate in reciting Sim Hun's poems and writing their own verses, awakening nostalgic literary emotions in adults and sparking interest in writing for children, making it an excellent educational space.

By appreciating the touching poem "When That Day Comes," you learn about the noble spirit of love for the country, while children can naturally learn history through exciting detective play, making it the perfect travel course in Dangjin.

This weekend, I hope you take happy steps to the Sim Hun Memorial Hall in Dangjin, where fresh nature and warm history come alive with your beloved family and friends.
