A Morning Stroll and a Sweet Treat: Remembering Deoksugung and its Waffles

I remember a trip I took with a friend back in 2017.

Looking back, I don't think the trip was purely for sightseeing, although that memory has faded now.

I think I was really into heavily filtered photos back then, and now I regret not having the original photos.

I remember visiting places like Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, and Deoksugung Palace for the first time.

Recently, I took another trip to Seoul and, since my accommodation was near Deoksugung Palace, I took an early morning stroll there.

An interesting image

I think I might stay at the Koreana Hotel next time I come to Seoul.

Walking along Deoksugung's stone wall path, I saw many people hurrying to work early in the morning.

Isn't that one of the charms of traveling?

I remembered the waffle shop my friend and I visited, and it was still there!

I felt like I was the only one who was happy to see it.

It's located right next to the main gate of Deoksugung Palace.

A delightful moment

I saw the Liege Waffle shop at the start of my walk, and thought I should order on the way back.

I ordered for takeout, planning to eat them back at my hotel.

Warm memories

I got back to my room and opened the package. Thankfully, since the hotel was nearby, the waffles were still warm.

A valuable experience

The chocolate one was for my husband, and the cream cheese one was for me.

Belgian Hazelnut Chocolate (8,300 KRW)

According to the menu description on Naver, the waffle is dipped in French Cacao Barry dark chocolate, then topped with hazelnuts, crunchy nuts, and milk chocolate curls.

I recommend this to anyone who loves chocolate and lots of toppings.

Warm memories

Blueberry Cream Cheese (7,900 KRW)

As a cream cheese lover, I ordered the Blueberry Cream Cheese waffle.

The Blueberry Cream Cheese waffle is a signature item at Liege Waffle.

It's a combination of blueberry compote and cream cheese.

The sweet and sour blueberry pieces combine with the soft and rich flavor of the cream cheese, enhancing the flavor along with the crispy, freshly baked waffle.

A fantastic sight

Personally, I recommend ordering the plain waffle or a special menu item.
