A Memorable Children's Day Celebration in Dangjin

Hello, I am Jeong Su-bin, a social media supporter sharing the vibrant news and beautiful landscapes of Dangjin City.
On May 5th, Children's Day, filled with dazzling blue skies and fresh greenery, what memories did you create with your family?
This year's Children's Day in Dangjin City kicked off in a very special place.
It was at the historic and charming site of Myeoncheon Fortress, where the '2026 104th Dangjin City Children's Day Event' took place.
With a sense of mission as a supporter and the heart of a mother with a husband and a young child, I set out to cover this exciting outing for our family.
The festival ran from 10 AM to 3 PM, packed into a vibrant five hours.
Under the serene fortress walls, thousands gathered, embodying the theme 'The Breath of a Thousand Years, Myeoncheon Fortress Blossoms with Children's Laughter.'
Even before the event began at 10 AM, families flocked to the area to enjoy the festival. Can you imagine how intense the excitement was?
The transformation of this historically rich space into a massive playground for children, merging tradition with modern cultural content, was truly moving.
Upon arrival, the first thing that caught my eye was the unique 'Zero Waste' initiative. Children received wristbands at the entrance, not just for entry verification.
If they collected general or recyclable waste and brought it to designated spots, they received 'unlimited experience stickers' on their wristbands.
This innovative and educational approach taught children the importance of environmental protection while rewarding them with festival enjoyment.
With just one sticker, they could enjoy unlimited access to performances, various experience programs, and free snacks.
However, food trucks and separate sales areas were excluded from this benefit, so it was essential to plan accordingly. Our family collected baby diaper waste and drink bottles to earn stickers, feeling proud to contribute to the environment while enjoying the festival.
Though the lines at popular experience booths were long, the joy of seeing my child enjoy the activities made the wait worthwhile.
The variety of experience programs showcased the city's dedication, including tug-of-war, martial arts, traditional games, caricatures, and modern activities, totaling 23 diverse programs.
Notably, the historical tour linked with Myeoncheon Hyanggyo, 'Little Detective, Find the Treasure of the Fortress!' allowed children to learn about the historical significance of Myeoncheon Fortress through play, earning praise from parents.
The sparkle in the children's eyes as they searched for hidden treasures was unforgettable.
The performance programs also enhanced the festival's enjoyment, with children joyfully chasing bubbles, feeling like the stars of the event. The harmony of the gray stones of the fortress and the transparent bubbles floating in the sky was stunningly beautiful.
As the festival drew to a close around 2 PM, magic and juggling performances captivated both children and adults alike.
The interactive nature of the show, where children were invited on stage to help complete the magic, left a lasting impression.
Despite the bustling crowd and some disappointment regarding food options, the event proved how much Dangjin citizens cherish cultural events to connect with their families.
As we wrapped up our coverage and headed home, my husband and I reflected on the festival, agreeing that despite the crowds and lines, seeing our child’s joy was worth it.
The five hours at Myeoncheon Fortress, filled with laughter, marked a precious intersection of Dangjin's past and future.
I sincerely hope that as our children grow, they will fondly remember the dazzling bubbles and the warmth of their parents' hands on that special day in May 2026.
We look forward to sharing more of Dangjin's vibrant life with you all.
May your homes always be filled with warmth, just like the gentle sunshine of May.
