A Healing Retreat at Odaesan Nature Meditation Village, Ombue

Odaesan Nature Meditation Village, Ombue.
Healing in its purest form - that's what you'll find at Odaesan Nature Meditation Village, Ombue. I've visited Woljeongsa Temple in Odaesan several times, and each time I thought, 'I have to come here someday.' Ombue is like a less demanding version of a temple stay. I enjoy temple stays too, but this is similar without the strict schedule of temple life.
It's perfectly located right across from the Odaesan Food Village, and Woljeongsa Temple is just a short walk away. Follow the road in, and you'll find the Ombue parking lot. (Here's a tip: Guests staying at Ombue can park here and visit the food village across the street. We parked in the food village parking lot for lunch, then explored the museum and a café, and ended up paying 6,000 won for parking. If I had known Ombue's parking lot was so spacious, I would have parked there and saved money!)
Our 3-person room cost 300,000 won, including two meals. Isn't that fantastic! It seems to be a bit cheaper on weekdays during the off-season. I think a 2-night, 3-day stay on weekdays would be perfect. One night feels too short.
Since we stayed on a Sunday and Monday, the parking lot was spacious. The lobby office is right in front of the parking lot! Ombue's check-in time is 2 PM, which was great for us early birds. The sooner, the better!
We checked in at the lobby and received instructions. The most important thing is the meals. Dinner is from 5:30 PM, and breakfast is from 8:00 AM! I love that they provide meals... No need to think about the menu or the time. You just show up and eat the food. It's a completely healthy meal with many side dishes and delicious flavors. My mom loved it!
No smoking! No alcohol! No makgeolli, no beer... No Wi-Fi. No TV. After visiting Seon Village, where even cell phone service was spotty, I was just happy to have data.
There's a meditation program every morning and evening, but not on Monday mornings. So, we participated in the meditation class at 7 PM on Sunday, the day we checked in. More on that later...
We stayed in Room 100 of Autumn Building. Because it was a 3-person room, it felt like a private villa. It felt like we were the only ones there. It was a duplex.
There are two single beds on the first floor, plenty of towels, and a hair dryer. There's a sink in the middle, with a shower room and toilet on either side. The high ceilings were nice and cool. A small staircase leads up to the attic on the second floor. There were windows on both floors, which was even better. The room was very comfortable. The bedding was soft and fluffy.
There are many places to take a walk. It was a bit hot, but the bugs weren't bad, and it was manageable! We explored the nature meditation village. The sky and clouds were so beautiful.

The dining area, Supida Restaurant! It's spacious, comfortable, and nice. We arrived right at 5:30 PM. So hungry! While we were eating, three foreigners with suitcases and backpacks came in. I guessed they were of Indian descent (they weren't speaking English, but that was my impression). I wondered how they found out about this place and came all the way here. These three also attended the meditation program... They participated in the meditation program with the monk, went running in the morning, ate healthy food, and thoroughly enjoyed Odaesan's nature. The meditation was great. It was led by a charismatic monk. There was a time to lie down and roll around, which was funny but refreshing. There was also a vocal exercise where we made the sounds 'Ah-Oh-Hoom.' I almost cried! I don't know why, but it felt a little sad to say 'Ah-Oh-Hoom.'
Anyway, the meals were excellent. Every side dish was delicious. Supida had a view of green pine trees. It was so pretty and nice.

A pine forest path where worries disappear. Cross Dongnimg Bridge to the meditation hall.
Clear water and the refreshing sound of flowing water. Perfect.

In addition to the daily meditation program, there are many special programs.
Check the website and participate if the schedule works for you.
Ombue. It was so great. Highly recommended!

You have to experience this peaceful natural space to understand. If you love nature, temple stays, mountains, and walking, just go.
