A Day Trip to Jincheon Nong Bridge and Chopyeongho Mir 309 Bridge

It's already mid-March, and winter is coming to an end. This weekend, I pondered where to go for a day trip. After some thought, I decided to visit Jincheon Nong Bridge and Chopyeongho Mir 309 Bridge, both of which are just over an hour away from Cheongju.
Upon arriving at Jincheon Nong Bridge, the first thing that greeted me was a spacious parking lot. The parking fee is 4,000 won, payable by card at an unmanned kiosk, so just make sure to bring your card. Near the entrance of the bridge, there are several snack shops and a place selling traditional sweet rice drink, making it convenient for a quick bite.
The weather was mild that day, attracting many families and seniors who were enjoying leisurely walks.
Jincheon Nong Bridge is located in front of the Mihogang River in Gusan-dong, Munbaek-myeon, Jincheon-gun. The bridge is constructed with small stones stacked like fish scales, resembling a centipede, and consists of 28 sections, corresponding to the 28 constellations. Remarkably, it has withstood floods without any cement or other binding materials, showcasing its impressive durability.
According to historical texts, Jincheon Nong Bridge was built by General Im during the Goryeo Dynasty, making it a valuable cultural heritage that has endured for over a thousand years. Its unique construction methods are a testament to the excellence of ancient engineering.
Just beyond the bridge, a forest path leads to the course towards Chopyeongho Mir 309 Bridge.
After walking along the waterfront deck path for about 20 minutes, I encountered a blue suspension bridge nestled between the mountains. The Chopyeongho Mir 309 Bridge, measuring 309 meters long, has no central pillars, providing a thrilling sensation of crossing directly over the lake. There’s also a café right at the bridge's entrance, perfect for enjoying a cup of tea while taking in the view.
Although the bridge sways slightly, it's not too intense, making it manageable to cross. However, there are warnings about dropping phones, so it's advisable to refrain from using them for safety.
Crossing the suspension bridge leads to a walking trail, which is truly a healing point. The path gently winds along the calm waters of Chopyeongho, making it suitable for people of all ages. There are benches and resting spots along the way, perfect for enjoying a simple picnic.
Even while writing this, the serene atmosphere of Jincheon Nong Bridge and the lake view from Chopyeongho Mir 309 Bridge make me want to visit again. It's a place where you can enjoy nature, history, and a leisurely walk without spending much, and it would be great to combine it with a visit to nearby restaurants.
Additionally, from April 4 to 26, the Nong Bridge Festival is scheduled to take place, featuring various fun programs such as a song contest, a bridge crossing event, pet activities, and a jazz concert. I highly recommend enjoying the festival on a warm spring day.
