A Day Trip to Gangneung and Donghae: Sunrise, Seafood, and Scenic Views

Gangneung & Donghae Day Trip!
Enjoying the open sea!
Starting the day with a sunrise.
I was able to fully enjoy it in one day.
This time, I departed early in the morning to see the sunrise and explore new places in Donghae.
Today's itinerary:
Departed from Wonju at 3 AM.
1. Watching the sunrise at Gyeongpo Beach 2. Gasiyeon Wetland in Gyeongpo Lake 3. Dochebbi-gull Sky Valley & Haerang Observatory in Donghae 4. Jumunjin Sodeol Beach
Around 5:40 AM,
The scene before sunrise was as mesmerizing as a sunset!
Unfortunately, the sunrise itself was hidden behind the clouds.
After seeing the sunrise, I planned to have seafood soft tofu jjambong, but since there were no restaurants open,
I ate kimchi jjigae and soft tofu jjigae at Hanggu Restaurant.
The kimchi jjigae was excellent!
I enjoyed it very much.
Before going to the restaurant, there was a huge line at "Won Gang Hee Bakery".
When I came out after the meal, the line had shortened, so I joined it and bought a few remaining breads.
Luckily, there were some breads left.
My favorite salt bread and croissants were already sold out.
Apparently, this is a place where people line up from dawn to buy bread.
Gasiyeon Wetland Protection Area in Gyeongpo Lake
There were many people riding bikes,
Running,
And walking around Gyeongpo Lake.
I visited here 10 years ago, and it felt like the lotus flowers had grown much bigger.
I always love lotus flowers.
Now, heading to Dochebbi-gull Sky Valley in Donghae.
I think we arrived in Donghae around 9 AM.
Since Dochebbi-gull opens at 10 AM,
We rested at Resoltide Cafe, relieving the fatigue from the early morning departure.
The second-floor space was great for relaxing.
It would be better to visit Dochebbi-gull Sky Valley when it's a bit cooler.
I recommend visiting in the fall or spring.
For lunch, we went from Donghae back to Gyeongpo Beach in Gangneung and ate a set menu for 3-4 people with snow crab and raw fish at Fishman Snow Crab Restaurant in Gyeongpo.
It was delicious, plentiful, and the staff was friendly.
I couldn't eat the spicy fish stew, so I packed it to go.
Now, to the beach!
We're going to Sodeol Beach, which was recommended by Hanggu Restaurant where we had breakfast.
At Sodeol Beach,
I rented a parasol for ₩30,000 and thoroughly enjoyed swimming with my niece, catching shellfish and halfbeaks.
On the way back to Wonju,
We finished with refreshing makguksu (buckwheat noodles) in Jumunjin.
Departed from Wonju at 3 AM and left Jumunjin for Wonju around 8 PM.
It was a very packed and fulfilling day.
It was a fun day well spent!
Thanks to my friend, younger sibling, niece, and granddaughter for joining me!
End of Gangneung/Donghae trip.
