A Day Trip to Chuncheon: Samaksan Mountain Cable Car and Beyond

After a night in Seoul and a quick breakfast of *kimbap*, we headed towards Gapyeong.
That familiar place... Petit France! We visited here with friends for a day trip this past spring.
Wow, it's even more welcoming to see it as we pass by.
I captured the scenery and the trumpet vine and ivy on camera before continuing on our way.
We arrived at a pier where you can enjoy leisure sports, but it was too early, and even the nearby cafes were not yet open.
A little disappointed, we hurried on.
I visited Samaksan Mountain, where I used to hike with friends in my 20s. Now, a cable car had been installed!
I had made a reservation through Naver on the way, but the ticket booth said it was available for use after 2 hours. I was able to use it right away after purchasing the ticket at the kiosk.
Let me introduce the Chuncheon Samaksan Mountain Cable Car, a thrilling experience that takes you across the blue Uiam Lake to the summit of Samaksan Mountain! It's the best place to see Chuncheon's beautiful nature at a glance. Why don't we start a healing trip on the Samaksan Mountain Cable Car right now?
The Samaksan Lake Cable Car, which opened in October 2021, is Korea's longest cable car, connecting Seomyeon in Chuncheon to the summit of Samaksan Mountain across Uiam Lake. With a total length of 3.61km, you can enjoy the scenery of Uiam Lake, downtown Chuncheon, and the magnificent Samaksan Mountain at the same time, making it a new landmark of Chuncheon.
Lower Station (Seomyeon) - Start Boarding!
Location: 854 Baksa-ro, Seomyeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do
There is a large parking lot, which is convenient when traveling by car.
Purchase a ticket at the ticket office and board the cable car. There are general cabins and crystal cabins with transparent floors, so choose according to your preference (additional charges apply for crystal cabins).
Crossing Uiam Lake - Fantastic Scenery!
Once the cable car departs, it glides over the blue Uiam Lake.
Outside the window, the scenery of downtown Chuncheon, Bongui Mountain, and the beautiful Uiam Lake unfolds like a painting. Especially on a good weather day, the scenery reflected in the water is breathtaking.
Upper Station (Samaksan Mountain) - The Charm of the Summit!
Location: Samaksan Mountain, Seomyeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do
When you get off at the upper station, the refreshing scenery in front of you is breathtaking.
Observatory: There are various themed observatories throughout the station, making it a great place to take pictures of your life. Take great pictures with the Chuncheon city and Uiam Lake as the background!
Walking trail: There is a walking trail where you can take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the fresh air of Samaksan Mountain. If hiking is your goal, you can also climb to the summit of Samaksan Mountain (Yonghwabong Peak) via the hiking trail connected to the station.
I gave up on the walk and enjoyed the view with an iced coffee at Ediya at the observatory.
I told my husband about my memories of hiking in the winter, carefully crawling along the icy paths hidden under the white snow.
Visiting Tips!
Visit on a clear day: You can enjoy a clearer and more beautiful view if you visit on a clear day with no fine dust.
Open Run or Visit on Weekdays: On weekends, there may be a lot of people and the waiting time may be long. If you want a relaxing tour, we recommend visiting in the morning on weekdays.
Combine with nearby tourist attractions: There are various tourist attractions around the Samaksan Mountain Cable Car, such as the Uiam Lake Skywalk, the Chuncheon Animation Museum, and Kim Yu-jeong Station. Plan a Chuncheon trip course with the cable car.
The best way to enjoy Chuncheon's beautiful nature in the most special way is the Samaksan Mountain Cable Car. Discover Chuncheon's new charms with your loved ones and create unforgettable memories!
First, food for the hungry.
I had a light breakfast, so I got hungry quickly and searched for a nearby restaurant.
It was a restaurant floating on the lake, and there were group guests even on weekdays, and it was too hot.
The sky was clear and refreshing like an autumn sky. I finished my trip with a stop at the Chuncheon rest area.
