On October 26, 2025, the MBC 'University Song Festival' stage was filled with profound emotion.
Shin Hae-chul's son, Shin Dong-won, and daughter, Shin Ha-yeon, took to the stage together to perform their father's signature song, 'To You.'
The performance featured a collaboration with the band LUCY, and, most touchingly, included Shin Hae-chul's actual voice, restored using AI technology, creating a deeply moving experience for the audience.
The AI voice recreation technology, developed by 'Next United,' brought Shin Hae-chul's voice back to life, vividly recreating the tone and emotion he conveyed during his lifetime.
After the performance, Shin Hae-chul's children shared heartfelt messages with the fans.
Shin Dong-won said, "It's been over ten years since my father passed away, and I am so grateful to the fans who still remember and care for him."
Shin Ha-yeon added, "I always remember my dad's fans with tears in their eyes. I hoped you enjoyed the performance with a smile today. Please, don't wear such sad expressions anymore," quoting lyrics from one of Shin Hae-chul's famous songs, 'Don't Make a Sad Face,' which brought tears to many eyes.
In 1988, Shin Hae-chul won the grand prize at the University Song Festival with his group, Muhangwedo, performing 'To You.' That performance marked the 'starting point of a legend,' establishing Shin Hae-chul as a national musician.
Thirty-seven years later, the mere fact that his two children stood on the same stage brought tears to the eyes of many fans.
Fans expressed their emotions, saying, "Shin Hae-chul must be smiling from heaven," and "It's a beautiful tribute spanning generations."
Shin Hae-chul passed away on October 27, 2014, due to complications from a medical accident following surgery at a hospital in Seoul. His family filed a lawsuit against the hospital for medical malpractice resulting in death, leading to a lengthy legal battle.
Even now, 11 years after his passing, his music, philosophy, and legacy continue to resonate. Fellow musicians and fans express their respect, saying, "The music he left behind is still ongoing."
A commentator noted, "Real music doesn't disappear with time. More touching than the voice revived by AI technology is the 'memory' of him held by his family and fans. Shin Hae-chul's music still reaches 'To You.'"
