In 2025, my colleagues and I set a New Year's goal: to climb 23 oreums (Jeju volcanic cones).

Saebyeol Oreum, close to Jeju City and offering a good workout in a short amount of time, was chosen as our first destination.

Although more than half of 2025 has already passed, let's start our oreum conquest journey from the beginning of this year!!

Let's go! ♀️♀️♀️♀️

Location & Accessibility

Located in Bongseong-ri, Aewol-eup, Jeju City, it's a representative oreum in the western mid-mountainous region!!

Altitude: 519.3m

The short course to the summit takes only 20-30 minutes, making it easy to climb even with children.

With ample parking space, it's convenient to use even on weekends. The parking lot right in front of Saebyeol Oreum is highly recommended.

Restrooms are located right next to the oreum, and food trucks line up in front, making it easy to grab a snack.Warm Memories

Lush Green Summer Saebyeol Oreum

These photos were taken when I visited with my daughter last year.

You can feel another charm of Saebyeol Oreum, with a completely different color palette than in winter.

Another View of Saebyeol Oreum

Starry Evening Saebyeol Oreum

Saebyeol Oreum is located slightly higher up,

making it very cool on summer nights.

Spreading out a chair in the parking lot and watching the stars and moonlight will make you forget the hot summer.

The entrance to Saebyeol Oreum is divided into east and west sides, with the western route being a bit steeper.

I chose to go up the west side and come down the east side.

Even though it was winter, I sweated because it was an oreum that subtly consumed energy in a short amount of time.

My son is diligently climbing the steep western path.

He wore gloves and a scarf, but ended up taking them off because he was too hot haha.

Reaching the summit, the west coast of Jeju, Biyangdo Island, and the wide, open horseshoe-shaped crater stood out.

In autumn, the silver grass creates a spectacular view, swaying beautifully in the wind.

If you reach the summit of Saebyeol Oreum, a photo in front of the monument is a must.

Especially if you go at sunset, you can enjoy a wonderful view with the sunset.

In summer, I recommend wearing sunglasses and taking pictures with the sunset at dusk!!

In the end, my son asked his dad to carry him down.

Although it was a short climb of about an hour, the scenery unfolding from the summit made me feel refreshed.

Moreover, I felt good that I had come because my son was sweating and shouting, "Awesome!"

It's a perfect oreum for families, beginner hikers, and those who want to experience Jeju oreums in a short amount of time.

Its accessibility is great, being close to Jeju City, and it was a place that gifted me, my child, and my husband with precious moments.

It's also where I meaningfully started my New Year's goal of 'Challenging 23 Oreums'.

Please look forward to the continuing oreum climbing journey!!
