Escaping the Summer Heat: A Visit to Unmunsa Temple in Cheongdo

Hello everyone!
This scorching summer is just too hot, isn't it?
It's so hot, I feel like singing a "too hot, too hot" song.
It's hot everywhere you go...
I'm starting to think staying home is the best way to escape the heat.
But then again, some days I feel like I should just go somewhere and sweat it out.
It's a holiday, but I can't afford to go far.
So, I'm just looking around near Daegu.
Today, I visited Unmunsa Temple in Cheongdo.
It's hot here too, but people are cooling off in the valley. Just watching them makes me feel refreshed.
Even in this heat, it's crowded with people.
Parking fee is required.
About Unmunsa Temple:
Located on Mt. Hogeo in Unmun-myeon, Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Unmunsa Temple is an ancient temple and a branch temple of Donghwasa Temple, the head temple of the 9th Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.
It's particularly well-known as the largest nun's training center in Korea.
In the 21st year of King Jinheung of Silla, the monk Shinseung and his companions founded five temples. The central temple, Daejakgapsa, is the present-day Unmunsa Temple.
After reconstruction, it was rebuilt by several monks, including State Preceptor Wongwang, State Preceptor Boyang, and State Preceptor Wonjin.
Name: In the 26th year of King Taejo of Goryeo, King Wang Geon of Goryeo presented a sign with the words 'Unmun Seonsa' in honor of State Preceptor Boyang's achievements, and since then, it has been called 'Unmunsa Temple'.
Nun's Training Center: After the Buddhist Purification Movement in the 1950s, a specialized nun's academy was established, and in 1987, it was renamed Sunga University, which has produced numerous Buddhist nuns to this day.
Major Cultural Assets and Attractions:

* Weeping Pine Tree of Unmunsa Temple (Natural Monument No. 180): An iconic, beautiful pine tree of Unmunsa Temple, characterized by branches that droop towards the ground. It is known to be very old, and many tourists visit to see this tree.

*East and West Three-Story Stone Pagodas of Cheongdo Unmunsa Temple (Treasure No. 678): Two stone pagodas located in front of the Daewoongbojeon Hall, representing the typical style of the Unified Silla period.

* Daewoongbojeon Hall of Cheongdo Unmunsa Temple (Treasure No. 835): The largest building in Unmunsa Temple, boasting a large scale that allows nuns to perform Buddhist ceremonies together. Inside, there are murals of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva and Bodhidharma (Treasure No. 1817).
Other Treasures: In addition to these, Unmunsa Temple has various treasures, including the Stone Lantern in front of the Geumdang Hall (Treasure No. 193), the Seokjoyeoraejwasang (Treasure No. 317), and the State Preceptor Woneung Monument (Treasure No. 316).

Beautiful Walking Path: The pine forest path from the entrance to Unmunsa Temple is another attraction of Unmunsa Temple, where you can enjoy a walk in a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere.

I carefully read the Unmunsa Temple map.

There are two parking lots at Unmunsa Temple.
There is a parking lot right in front of the temple and a parking lot at the bus stop.
It would be nice to walk from the bus stop, but it's too hot, so my mother and husband stopped me.

I'm glad I did.
Even though it's not a long distance, I was sweating a lot just walking from the parking lot in front of the temple to the entrance of Unmunsa Temple...

Oh my...
But the pine trees are so pretty, aren't they?
I want to tell you to just enjoy it in the pictures.

When you arrive at the entrance, there is a sign like this.
Unmunsa Temple Road, Saria Hermitage Road...

You know, right?!
Saria Hermitage... there must be people who go there even in this summer, right?

They are really amazing people.
I often go to Unmunsa Temple, but this is the first time I've gone when it's this hot...
Unmunsa Temple is a temple, but it's also a tourist destination.

I think this is the first time I've seen the stone turtle.
Why is it that I've never seen the stone turtle even though I've been here so many times...

I took a lot of pictures without giving in to the hot sun~~~
I walked around for about 5 minutes and sweat was pouring down my back...

You can also see Bodhi trees here. There are many of them here and there.
In the spring, the King Cherry blossoms are also famous.

First of all, because you can see Unmun Dam before coming to Unmunsa Temple,
There is a cherry blossom road prepared in the spring.

There will be fallen leaves in the fall~~
Spring, summer, fall, and winter are all satisfying places.

It is a well-preserved Daewoongbojeon Hall.
Many people come to the newly built Daewoongbojeon Hall now.

I went to the Gwaneumjeon Hall and bowed three times, and then bowed three times again at the Myeongbujeon Hall.
Still, I came to the temple, so I have to say hello to the Buddha.

It would be better if there was someone to drive,
If I take someone and pass by this place,
You will feel peace of mind throughout your visit.

Walking the forest path, not just Unmunsa Temple, already makes you a Buddhist.

Walking the Unmunsa Temple is just a way to find peace of mind...

Wow~~ I just made that up, but it's touching.

Please understand that it's because I'm sleepy.

Now I'm going to stop.

I need to take a nap.

See you next time.
