A Tranquil Visit to Geungnaksan Geonbongsa Temple in Goseong, Gangwon-do

During my trip to Goseong, Gangwon-do, I made my first stop at Geungnaksan Geonbongsa Temple, one of the Goseong's Top 10 scenic spots.
Visited on August 3, 2025, Geungnaksan Geonbongsa Temple offered a truly healing experience and is a highlight among Goseong's ten best views.
Geonbongsa Temple enshrines the Sarira (sacred tooth relics) of Sakyamuni Buddha.

The temple provides ample parking space and restroom facilities.
Geonbongsa Yeonhwa Bridge
Before reaching the Bureimun Gate, I encountered the beautiful wooden Yeonhwa Bridge. Like its name, this pretty wooden bridge evoked memories of crossing rural bridges in my childhood.

Two must-see spots within Geonbongsa Temple are the Geonbongsa Pine Tree and General Spring.
Here's a view of Geonbongsa Temple in 1920.

Bureimun Gate is the first gateway to Geonbongsa Temple.

To reach Jeokmyeolbogung (Hall of Silence) and Sansingak (Mountain Spirit Shrine), go straight. For Geungnakjeon (Paradise Hall), turn left. Boanwon (Sarira Enshrinement Hall), the Main Hall, and the temple office are to the right.

Cross the Neungpa Bridge to reach the area where the Main Hall is located.

Boanwon (Sarira Enshrinement Hall)
Boanwon is where you can view the Buddha's Sarira. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to see the Buddha's relics during my visit to Geonbongsa Temple.

The entrance to Neungpa Bridge is a picturesque scene, showcasing the beauty of Korean architecture.
General Spring

General Spring, which I recommended as a must-see spot at Geonbongsa Temple, features unique water droplet-shaped sculptures. Lotuses were in bloom during August.

After crossing Neungpa Bridge, I headed towards the King Pine Tree and the Bogung Sarira Pagoda.
I then proceeded to the area with Jeokmyeolbogung, Sansingak, and Geungnakjeon.
I quenched my thirst with the cool water.

Geonbongsa Temple Stay
I would love to participate in a Temple Stay during the cooler seasons, a chance to pause and reflect when life calls for it.
Jeokmyeolbogung

Hydrangeas were blooming gracefully. The Bogung Sarira Pagoda is located here.

Next to the Geonbongsa Temple Stay, you can see the King Pine Tree.

I passed through the Bureimun Gate on my way back to the parking lot, concluding my visit where it began.
After passing through Bureimun Gate, I noticed a beautiful bridge, a stylish wooden structure.

Located next to the parking lot are the Manhae Hanyongun Memorial Hall and the Samyeongdang Uiseungbyeong Memorial Hall.

Goseong in Gangwon-do offers many attractions and delicious food. After exploring Geonbongsa, one of Goseong's Top 10 scenic spots, I felt calm and refreshed. It was a truly relaxing trip.
I hope to revisit Geonbongsa Temple in Goseong during all four seasons.
