A Peaceful Escape to the First Landing Site of Baekje Buddhism in Yeonggwang

I'm not Buddhist, but I think I really like visiting temples!
(Maybe it's because I grew up with no particular religion. I also enjoy cathedral tours when I travel in Europe!)
(I'm just amazed and overwhelmed by them...)
The unique, quiet, and peaceful atmosphere, the feeling of being silently comforted, gives me a strange attraction.
If there's a famous temple in the place I'm traveling, I try to visit it.
This time, I visited a place called 'The First Landing Site of Baekje Buddhism' in Yeonggwang, South Jeolla Province!

To get to the First Landing Site of Baekje Buddhism, you have to pass through the Supjaengi Flower Garden.
Park in the Supjaengi Flower Garden parking lot and follow the signs.
I liked the cute name of the Supjaengi Flower Garden, and the walk was peaceful and so pretty.
It was summer, so the sun was strong, but the lush greenery was at its best...
You can see views like this on the way, and there was no one there the day we went, which was even better!
I don't know if it's because it's not well known yet, or if everyone went somewhere else because it was too hot.
But I just found out about it this time, so it's become one of my secret spots that I want to keep to myself.
Zoom in on everything that looks cool.
Is this it?!
Something unusual starts to appear.
Oh, what's this?
What?! Is this even Korea?!
Wow...
(A person who can only say 'oh' in amazement)
What is this pond? It's so pretty!
(Didn't see any frogs or fish though)

While searching for the First Landing Site of Baekje Buddhism, I learned some interesting facts!
The route of Buddhism's transmission to Baekje was unclear for a long time.
But interestingly, this story has been passed down for generations:
"The monk Marananta from India came through Beopseongpo in Yeonggwang, preached Buddhism, and established Bulgapsa Temple, marking the beginning of Baekje Buddhism."
This story was revealed to be more than just a legend in 1998.
As a result of academic research by Yeonggwang County and Dongguk University, it was confirmed that Yeonggwang was the first landing site of Baekje Buddhism!
Marananta Monk, who departed from India at the time, entered Baekje in A.D. 384,
and the first place he set foot on was Beopseongpo in Yeonggwang.
Now, to commemorate this place, it has been created as 'The First Landing Site of Baekje Buddhism'
and developed into a tourist attraction that anyone can visit.
The 'Beop(法)' in Beopseongpo refers to Buddhism, and the 'Seong(聖)' refers to Marananta, the saint.
I liked that there weren't many people, and the exotic atmosphere was like finding a small holy site in a foreign country!

A domestic travel destination with a foreign feel that makes you say, "There was a place like this?"
A strangely shaped tree.
Got a couple bracelet too.
A huge Buddha statue in the distance.
Let's go up the stairs.
Marananta Monk Statue
Giant feet that look like 댕씨's feet.
It's much more impressive in person than in the photos, and I felt like the 'noise inside me' was quietly being organized.
A place with a great view.

✔️ Perfect for healing, not a noisy tourist destination.
✔️ Many photo spots where you can take pictures of your life.
✔️ A hidden gem where nature, history, and tranquility come together.
I recommend it to those who go alone, couples, or married couples!
It's a great place to visit quietly, especially when you feel a little heavy or want to reset.
