A Night at Changgyeonggung Palace: The Moonlight Lotus Exhibition

About a month ago, my club took a field trip to Changgyeonggung Palace for a nighttime opening.
It was during the Changgyeonggung Moonlight Lotus (Mulbit Yeonhwa) period.

2025.03.07 - 2025.12.31
While the promotional material states March to December, it was a partial showing period when I visited, which was a bit disappointing.
Changgyeonggung Moonlight Lotus Partial & Full Showing Schedule

2025. 5. 20 (Tue) ~ 9. 9 (Tue): Showing start time (8:00 PM)
2025. 11. 9 (Sun) ~ 12. 31 (Wed): Showing start time (7:00 PM)
Changgyeonggung Moonlight Lotus Full Showing
2025. 4. 15 (Tue) ~ 5. 18 (Sun): Showing start time (8:00 PM)
2025. 9. 10 (Wed) ~ 11. 8 (Sat): Showing start time (7:00 PM)
The dates are as above.
No separate reservation is needed; you can simply enter Changgyeonggung Palace and enjoy the show.
Areas Not Shown During Partial Showings
Currently, the showing excludes Scene 2 (Daechundangji Pond) and Scene 5 (Sochundangji Pond).
The 2nd and 5th scenes will be shown during the full showing starting September 10th, so I'll definitely have to visit again then.
Since the Moonlight Lotus event meant Daechundangji Pond wasn't included, it felt a bit incomplete.
Admission Fee Information
As with most palaces, admission is free for teenagers and seniors.
Typically, the standard for teenagers in palaces is until age 24, so be sure to take advantage of that!
Also, admission is free for everyone on Culture Day, which is the last Wednesday of every month.
This applies to Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, Deoksugung Palace, and Jongmyo Shrine as well as Changgyeonggung.
Changgyeonggung Closing Time & Closed Days (No Palace Days)
The palace is open until 8:30 PM for the night opening, but admission closes at 8:00 PM.
The palace is closed every Monday.
Changgyeonggung Visit & Photo Trip Review
I met up with my club members around 6 PM, showed our IDs for free admission, and tried to enjoy both the daytime and nighttime ambiance.
There were many people wearing hanboks (traditional Korean clothing), perhaps attending a special event.
You can see Namsan Mountain from Changgyeonggung Palace.
It felt like I was on a Seoul city trip.
After walking around, we headed to Chundangji Pond.
Chundangji Pond
There was a couple there, it was very beautiful.
It's a pity the area wasn't being shown during the partial showing.
Even so, Chundangji Pond was beautiful, and the lighting, like lanterns in the last photo, was very pretty.
The pictures are... ambiguous because it was night. ㅎㅎ
The Grand Greenhouse
I unexpectedly discovered a beautiful spot.
The Grand Greenhouse was so pretty.
It's a very old greenhouse, and it hasn't been reopened for very long, so I don't think many people know about it.
You can visit it along with Changgyeonggung Palace, so be sure to check it out.
I went around sunset, and it was so beautiful.
There's also a garden in front.
Changgyeonggung Night Opening
As the sun set, this is what it looked like.
The lights were all beautiful, making the colors stand out even more.
Changgyeonggung Moonlight Lotus
As befitting the Moonlight Lotus event, I also saw the media art.
The photos were all taken near Scene 7.
It seems to evoke the feel of roof tiles.
The harmony of the lighting and the shadows of the actual plants was also charming.
These are flower petals. Seeing this, I cautiously thought it would be nice if the media art changed with the seasons in the future.
There was also a media art piece that seemed to appear and disappear, almost like a responsive media art but not quite.
Changgyeonggung BEST CUT
This photo perfectly captures the serene feeling of the roof tiles and the essence of tradition.
It's the best shot of this trip!
If you're looking for a photo trip or a tourist destination in Seoul, how about Changgyeonggung Palace today?
The weather is now good for walking around.
That concludes my review and photo trip to Changgyeonggung Palace!
