The '2025 Hangul International Pre-Biennale' is enjoying a successful run, drawing enthusiastic attention from visitors!
At the heart of this popularity are the 'Hangul Citizen Docents,' who directly engage with the audience.
Let's explore the story of these special guides who share their insights with fellow citizens: the 'Hangul Citizen Docents.'
Back in August, a group of remarkable individuals came together – approximately 20 citizens selected to serve as 'Hangul Citizen Docents.'
These individuals underwent an impressive training program consisting of 11 sessions before being deployed on-site for the exhibition's opening.
Not only do they acquire in-depth knowledge akin to professional docents, but they also possess the unique ability to convey the exhibition's message in a warm and approachable manner from a citizen's perspective, which is a significant draw.
Indeed, listening to their explanations throughout the exhibition makes the artworks feel much more relatable, and following their narratives significantly enhances engagement.
The Citizen Docent program is a hit with visitors and has become a 'core program' of the exhibition.
The daily Citizen Docent tours are already gaining steady popularity and have established themselves as a signature program of the exhibition.
Goo Suk-jin, a current docent, shared her thoughts: "I approach each opportunity to stand before the audience with excitement. I'm delighted to contribute even a small amount of effort to the preparations for the 1st Hangul International Biennale."
Yang Yu-jeong, Head of the Hangul Culture City Center, stated, "Citizen participation is essential for an exhibition to gain sustained interest and vitality. Citizen docents breathe life into the artworks and play a significant role in the Biennale's success."
Like Yang mentioned, Citizen Docents, who communicate closely with visitors, serve as a bridge connecting the exhibition's essence, going beyond being mere narrators.
If you want to experience the exhibition not just as something to 'see' but as something to hear stories about, feel, and enjoy together, we highly recommend the Citizen Docent program.
If you have the time, how about a special exhibition journey with Hangul this fall? The Hangul International Biennale is open year-round, so we encourage you to visit!
