A Special Encounter with Poet Yoo Byeong-rok
Gyoha Library, a cultural space where books and people gather
hosted a meaningful event that brings the fragrance of literature closer to daily life.
This event was part of the 'Library Residency Program' organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Council Korea.
I had the opportunity to attend the meeting with poet Yoo Byeong-rok!
Let me introduce you to the 'Residency Program' where professional writers and citizens breathe together in the library, along with highlights from the book talk.
Is there a writer residing at the library?
The 'Library Residency Program' allows literary writers to stay at public libraries,
continuing stable creative activities while
planning and operating tailored literary and reading culture programs for local residents.
This year, poet Choi Ji-in is serving as the resident writer at Gyoha Library,
engaging in various literary communications with citizens from the library's third-floor 'Resident Writer Room.'
Beyond merely borrowing books,
the library serves as a unique cultural platform where writers and citizens share life through literature
and learn the joy of creation.
Last weekend, the cultural lecture room on the second floor of Gyoha Library
hosted a book talk with poet Yoo Byeong-rok as the finale of the program 'Reading a Poetry Collection with a Poet' led by resident writer Choi Ji-in.
Participants who had deeply explored Yoo Byeong-rok's poetry collection 'We Do Not Become Extinct' over six weeks gathered in the lecture room.
Yoo Byeong-rok, a recipient of various literary awards, shared the background of his poetry,
loss in daily life, and stories of recovery in his warm and sincere voice.
Listening attentively to each participant's questions, he imparted how to view the world with a poetic perspective,
filling the lecture room with deep resonance and empathy.
