The Insadong City Archaeological Exhibition Hall has opened in Jongno, Seoul, where you can encounter the lifestyle and scientific culture of the Joseon Dynasty.
This historical space allows visitors to directly observe artifacts such as building sites from the 16th-century Jongno back alleys, communal wells, metal movable type, and astronomical clocks.
Discover the essence of Joseon from 500 years ago in the heart of Jongno.
The exhibition hall, which reveals the alleyways of the Joseon Dynasty and traces of scientific technology from the Sejong era, is now open to the public.

What is the Insadong City Archaeological Exhibition Hall?
The exhibition hall preserves and restores the excavated sites from the Insadong area in their original locations, covering approximately 4,810 square meters, making it the largest archaeological exhibition hall in downtown Seoul.
It will officially open on July 16, 2026.
Operating hours are Tuesday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00. Closed on Mondays (except holidays) and on January 1.
Admission is free.
Located at G1 SEOUL, B1F, 18 Jongno 11-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Through the seven cultural layers from the early Joseon period to the Japanese colonial era, visitors can observe the transformation of Jongno.
The exhibition includes actual excavated sites, along with 523 artifacts, such as metal movable type, the water clock 'Jigyeongnu', and other relics, providing a vivid experience of life and culture in Jongno 500 years ago.

What representative artifacts of scientific culture from the early Joseon period can you find?
The main exhibition contents feature outstanding scientific cultural artifacts from the early Joseon period.
Key items include:
- Metal movable types
- Various astronomical clocks from the Sejong era
- Water clocks and other significant scientific tools
Particularly noteworthy is the astronomical clock 'Ilseongjeongsui', which was produced only four times under King Sejong's command in 1437 and was confirmed for the first time at the Insadong site.
