Changing Society, Challenging Museums
Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Museums Association and the Gwangju Cultural Tourism Foundation, this fair is more than just an exhibition.
Under the theme of "Changing Society and the Challenge of Museums & Art Galleries," we look back on the journey of Korean museums and art galleries, which have grown to over 1,300 since the opening of the Changgyeonggung Imperial Museum in 1909.
This vast network is made up of fragments of time.
The artifacts and artworks cherished by each institution transcend individual value and fully encompass the vast spectrum of human civilization.
Three Core Lights
Museums and art galleries face three challenges:
Inheritance and Preservation of Tradition - A hand that connects the breath of the past to the present
The Power of Education and Creativity - Transformation into a creative platform for citizens and a lifelong learning institution
The Great Transformation of the Digital Age - Smart museums, AI curators, and the birth of new viewing experiences
Themed Exhibition - Walking the Shining Journey of Humanity
Collection for All: "The Shining Journey of Humanity, Challenges and the Future"
Collections sent from museums across the country. They are small lights carefully drawn from their respective spaces and the culmination of intellectual heritage accumulated over 5,000 years of history and culture of this land.
114 museums and art galleries participate, including the National Museum of Korea, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the National Folk Museum of Korea. Based on the four core drivers that run through human civilization - materials, foundations, narratives, and progress - the journey of challenges and tasks we have faced, and the wisdom and vision that responded to them, unfolds.
Museum People - Records of Invisible Hands
Here, there is an untold story.
The countless hands and processes that are not revealed on the front lines until an exhibition is completed. Collection and preservation of artifacts, exhibition planning and design, artwork transportation and installation, education, and content creation. All fields are meticulously connected to complete a story.
Special Exhibition - Encounters Beyond Boundaries
Regional Exchange Exhibition: "A Special Time for Museums and Art Galleries and the Region to Meet"
Museums and art galleries in various regions exchange art and resources. A space where the spread and connection of culture and art are realized so that all people can enjoy cultural opportunities.
Museum × Meet
50 excellent cultural assets owned by museums and art galleries across the country are selected under the theme of 'The First and the Beginning.' Each collection and the various stories contained within meet visitors.
Moments of Meeting and Dialogue
Networking Concert (September 5, 15:00 - 17:00)
Enjoy insightful pitches, poetry readings, and Korean traditional music performances.
Conversation with Directors (September 6, 14:00 - 15:00)
It will be a valuable opportunity to communicate directly with those who lead major museums and art galleries in Korea.
Career Counseling Center Operation (September 4 - September 6)
Briefings for personnel managers from national and public museums and career counseling will be held for 3 days.
In addition, expert mentoring from Professor Namgung Yoon-jae, a research professor at the Hongik University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, Han Ji-won, a docent, and curators from the National Museum of Korea.
Consulting from employment and start-up expert Jung Ho-hoon will also continue for 3 days.
Experience Education Room - Opening the Door of Creativity
Experience education programs are operated 4 times a day from September 4th to 7th.
Pre-registration is required on the website for docent exhibition viewing and experience education room programs.
It will be the best experiential learning opportunity for children to develop their creativity.
Passing Through the Forest of Experience
There are also many programs in which visitors can directly participate and experience.
Doll Workshop - A special experience where experts directly repair old dolls that children cherish most. Fragments of memory gain new life.
Calligraphy Demonstration - Writing written directly by the artist on site. The moment becomes a work of art and is delivered to the visitor's hand.
AI Fortune Compatibility Experience - The threads of fate unraveled by artificial intelligence. The boundary between tradition and technology disappears with the K-amulet experience.
Digital Immersive Video Hall - A Journey Through Time
Realistic content based on cultural heritage:
LH Land & Housing Museum 「My Led City Project」
HaeNam Dinosaur Museum 「Excavation Story of Cheongun Dinosaur」
Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Hall 「Shout in Lushun」
National Theater of Korea Performing Arts Museum 「Spring Snow」
In an era where images become language, our cultural heritage becomes more familiar.
Goods - Time to Carry Memories
The National Museum of Korea's popular goods are sold in limited quantities of 100 per day.
On the last day of the event, you can purchase the remaining stock at a 10% discount.
Goods from major museums and art galleries across the country gather in one place and transform into items that can hold special memories.
Here, the doors of time open.
In this space where the past, present, and future intersect, we begin a new journey.
This special cultural trip with family, lovers, and friends.
In the first week of September, Gwangju becomes a giant museum.
If you are planning to visit, the pre-registration prize event for the <2025 Museum & Art Fair> is in progress until August 31st, so I think it would be good to participate and visit.
