A Special Book Talk at Gyoha Library

A Special Book Talk at Gyoha Library
What's in My Book Program
Read books, see exhibitions, and meet authors at Paju Gyoha Library.
As the heatwave continues, many of us are wondering where to go.
On days when outdoor activities are too hot and staying indoors feels disappointing,
visiting the Paju Library to enjoy books and cultural activities in a cool and pleasant environment
seems like a great option!
At Paju Library, there are not only books to read but also various exhibitions, cultural programs, humanities lectures,
and regular meetings with authors.
Recently, I attended a meeting with author Lim Soon-man for the 'What's in My Book' program
featuring his book, "Lying in Baekbeom's Mountains."
This lecture was particularly meaningful as it commemorated the 150th anniversary of the birth of Baekbeom Kim Gu.
Author Lim shared insights not only about Kim Gu as a renowned independence activist but also
as a person who constantly grappled with choices in the midst of historical turmoil.
Reflecting on historical figures not just as heroes but as individuals with struggles and decisions
made Kim Gu's life feel more relatable.
The author shared his process of researching and comparing numerous historical documents while writing
"Lying in Baekbeom's Mountains," illustrating the time and effort involved in creating a single book.
The lecture was surprisingly engaging and not as difficult as one might expect from a history talk.
With anecdotes from the author's writing journey, I found myself completely absorbed.
After the lecture, he addressed attendees' questions, prompting deeper thoughts about books and history.
I left wanting to read "Lying in Baekbeom's Mountains" for myself.
This experience not only deepened my understanding of Kim Gu as a historical figure
but also made me reflect on what history means to us today.
It was a significant time meeting Kim Gu again through Lim Soon-man's insights.
Especially with Liberation Day approaching, attending such a meaningful lecture felt even more special.
Paju Library offers a wonderful gift by providing high-quality cultural programs for free.
Through the 'What's in My Book' program, I realized that Paju Library is not just a place to read books,
but a space to enjoy diverse cultural experiences.
With exhibitions, interesting lectures, and various programs, it's a great place to spend meaningful time.
For those wanting to dive deeper into books, I highly recommend experiencing the diverse author events at Paju Library!
Listening to the stories of the authors behind the books adds a memorable layer to the reading experience.
If you're a citizen of Paju contemplating where to go to escape the lingering heat,
consider visiting your local library.
Enjoy a refreshing space where you can escape the heat while engaging with books, exhibitions, and lectures.
Make the most of the remaining summer at Paju Library!
