A Celebration of Tradition and Unity: The 8th Namhansanseong Dodanggut Festival in Seongnam

Seongnam, the city of hope, hosted the 8th Namhansanseong Dodanggut National Peace Festival on October 18, 2025, from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Bundang Central Park Outdoor Theater. The event concluded successfully amidst the enthusiastic interest and support of Seongnam citizens.
The event was hosted by the Seongnam and Gwangju branch of the Korea Gyeongsin Federation Gyeonggi Southern Headquarters (Director Noh Young-chan) and organized by the Seongnam and Namhansanseong Dodanggut Preservation Association (President Lee Mi-nyeo). The event was emceed by Kim Jung-jin, Secretary-General of the Seongnam Cultural Center.
Part 1: The Beginning of Tradition and Blessings - 'Gilnori' and the Opening Ceremony
The festival began with a dynamic 'Gilnori' performance by the Tarak Yeonhui Dan Soriul (Representative Lee Young-pyo and 10 others). Following the national anthem, an opening address was given by Director Noh Young-chan, and a congratulatory message from Seongnam Mayor Shin Sang-jin was delivered by Ahn Seong-geun, Director of the Education, Culture, and Sports Bureau of Seongnam City, adding significance to the festival. Singer Kim Yong-guk's performance heightened the atmosphere, gifting delightful music to the citizens.
Part 2: Dodanggut Main Event - Harmony and Peace through Traditional Rituals
The second part featured the Namhansanseong Sanshin Daeje (Mountain Spirit Ritual) and Dodanggut performance. The <Musicians> Kim Mu-kyung (Holder of Intangible Cultural Property No. 44, Samhyeonyukgak), Kim Sun-ho (KBS Korean Music Award), and Lee Ho-joon (Presidential Award at the National Korean Music Competition) enhanced the depth of traditional music with their accompaniment.
The Dodanggut proceeded in the following order: Chobujeonggeori (Kim Eun-kyung), Bulgari (Nam Su-jin), Dodangsan Geori (Lee Mi-nyeo), Daesin Geori (Kim Eun-kyung), Dongja·Seonnyeo Geori (Special Appearance Noh Ji-eun), Sangsan Geori (General, Byeolsang, Sinjang, etc.) (Kim Yeon-eun), Daegam Geori (Park Eun-ha), Seongju Geori (Kim Woo-hwa), Changbu Geori (Kim Myung-ok), and Jakdu Geori (Kim Mi-hee, Song Ok-soon).
In particular, Song Ok-soon's twelve Jakdu performance and Kim Mi-hee's Jakdu-taki performance, both from Andong, drew exclamations from the audience, showcasing the excitement and artistry of the Gut.
Lee Mi-nyeo (President of the Seongnam and Namhansanseong Dodanggut Preservation Association), who led the Dodanggut on this day, is a representative shamanic artist from the Seongnam area. Known as 'Great Elder Manshin' in Seongnam, she has comforted the joys and sorrows of citizens for many years. She has carried on the tradition and revived the original meaning of Gut, which is healing and harmony, in modern society.
A Post-Festival Celebration with Citizens
The event concluded with a 'Joyful Post-Festival Celebration' where citizens, artists, and members came together. Participants shared their hearts in the resonance of the Gut and reaffirmed the spirit of the Seongnam community, laughing and uniting even in difficult times.
This festival was meaningful as it informed citizens of the value of Namhansanseong Dodanggut, which inherits traditional beliefs and folk arts, and revived the meaning of praying for national peace and the well-being of citizens.
An official from Seongnam City said, "We hope that Namhansanseong Dodanggut will establish itself as a regional traditional culture and develop into a representative cultural festival that all citizens can enjoy together."
