A Sweet Ending to Our Cheongju Trip: Siot Gieok Bbieup Salt Bread Heaven

Our last stop on our Cheongju trip was the main branch of Siot Gieok Bbieup. My daughter loves salt bread more than any other bread, so I researched this place in advance, and I'm so glad we went! There's also a Cheongju Terminal branch, but we chose the main branch because I heard they have a wider variety of salt bread :)

02. Empty Trays
When we arrived, only three types of salt bread were left: plain, potato mayo, and chocolate kroll. The empty trays here and there greeted us forlornly, but it felt like proof that this place is a real gem.
I wanted to try other flavors like condensed milk butter, egg mayo, and garlic cream cheese, but I had to turn away just looking at the name tags, which was disappointing. If you want to try a variety of flavors, I recommend visiting early or making a reservation on Naver. I saw them handing a pre-packaged box to someone who came to pick it up.
03. Inside the Store
I thought Siot Gieok Bbieup would be a bakery cafe, but it wasn't. It's a small space that tightly displays various salt breads for takeout only.
It's a very small bakery, but it's decorated with salt bread models and dolls, and the forks, trays and wrapping papers are decorated exotically.
Fortunately, it was connected to Arte Coffee next door, so we were able to grab a table and order drinks. I had a feeling that the coffee shop was a hidden gem that sells coffee beans directly. The cafe's interior was charming, and the atmosphere was nice.
04. Our Order
We bought a chocolate kroll and a plain salt bread. The salt bread was hard to cut with a knife, but I was impressed by the crispy crust and incredibly chewy inside. It was the perfect example of a crispy outside and chewy inside.
The plain one was also delicious, but I liked the chocolate kroll more. It had chocolate inside, creating a chocolate sensation that melted in my mouth.
05. Cafe Drinks
We ordered watermelon juice, vanilla latte, and decaf Americano. The moment I drank the watermelon juice, I made a surprised face with my daughter. Maybe it was because it was hot and I was thirsty, but it tasted like real watermelon without any artificial syrup.
I drank the coffee without expecting much, but this place was a latte 맛집(delicious restaurant/great place). The deep, smooth latte tasted similar to Paul Bassett, and my husband was very satisfied with it.
06. Overall Review
It was a great way to end our Cheongju trip, being able to enjoy salt bread with drinks in a cozy cafe.
It's a famous place with branches in Cheongju and Daegu. The unique name, Siot Gieok Bbieup, which is simply reading 'ㅅㄱㅃ' as it is, was also interesting.
If you visit Cheongju, you should definitely stop by. Those who love salt bread will be especially satisfied. However, popular items sell out quickly, so I recommend visiting in the morning or making a reservation!
