Hello! I recently visited the Son Yang-won Memorial Hall located in Chilwon-eup, Ham-an-gun.
This place, well-known as a site of history and faith, has a spacious public parking lot nearby, making it convenient for visitors.
The outdoor plaza outside the memorial hall is well-maintained and perfect for a leisurely stroll.
When visiting the Son Yang-won Memorial Hall, a must-see is the birthplace located right next door. While the memorial hall showcases the achievements and records of Pastor Son, the birthplace helps visitors understand his roots and philosophical background.
The simple appearance of the unadorned house reflects the honest and modest character that Pastor Son upheld throughout his life. The unique outdoor installations in the front yard of the memorial hall carry symbolic meanings, resembling an outdoor gallery.
Every pathway leading to the exhibition hall of the memorial hall is filled with careful attention to detail. The gently sloping entrance to the memorial hall is designed to be barrier-free, allowing easy access for the elderly and disabled.
The curved corridors inside the memorial hall feel like a time-traveling tunnel connecting the past and the present.
Is it okay for the lobby to be this trendy? The lobby is designed as an experiential space targeting MZ generation preferences.
The interactive content, including a four-cut comic and a poetry corner, serves as a platform for visitors to share their feedback in real-time.
Seeing Pastor Son through the eyes of others made me realize how wide and deep a person's good influence can spread.
The mid-section of the exhibition focuses on Pastor Son's anti-Japanese struggle and his records from prison. His steadfast refusal to participate in Shinto worship despite the threats from the Japanese imperialists was truly impressive.
His passionate cry, 'Let us revive the fundamental spirit of the Korean nation!' made me appreciate how precious the peace we enjoy today is.
It was a valuable time to learn deeply about what true patriotism looks like through action.
Pastor Son's story of adopting the perpetrator who took his two sons during the Yeosu-Suncheon incident in 1948 exemplifies a love that transcends human understanding. It was a touching moment to grasp why he was nicknamed the 'Atomic Bomb of Love.'
His life is closely intertwined with the history of Korea's independence, as he believed that freedom of faith equates to national liberation. His unwavering steps are vividly evidenced through the materials in the exhibition hall.
The highlight of the memorial hall is the final exhibit titled 'Heavenly Love.' The arrangement of a coffin and light on one side was so magical that it made death feel beautiful rather than sad.
As I observed Pastor Son, referred to by various titles such as a friend of the Hansen's disease patients, a servant of God, and a symbol of forgiveness and love, I felt that the term 'the little Jesus I met' was truly fitting.
If you want to witness the extraordinary forgiveness of a man who adopted the one who took his two sons and the passionate footsteps of patriot Son Yang-won who stood against Japanese imperialism, I highly recommend visiting this place!
