The Haman Police Victory Memorial Hall is a significant historical site that honors the noble sacrifices of many patriotic souls and police officers who fought to defend the Nakdong River's last line of defense during the Korean War.
Did you know that such a meaningful memorial exists in Haman?
Located in Daesan-myeon, the memorial was established to pay respect to those who fought valiantly during the Korean War.
There is a small parking lot next to the memorial, and nearby stands the Korean War Police Victory Monument, featuring a wall adorned with the Taegukgi symbol, representing the courage and sacrifice of the police officers who dedicated themselves to the nation.
The monument commemorates the 6,800 police officers from Gyeongnam, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk who formed four units to defend the last line at Haman during a critical time when the country was under threat.
When over a thousand North Korean soldiers attempted to cross the Namgang Songdo ferry to occupy Masan, 58 police officers from the Sancheong Police Station and 30 U.S. soldiers fought for nine hours, killing hundreds of enemy troops.
After establishing a defensive position at the ferry for over 40 days, they turned the tide of battle and achieved a significant victory at the Haman front.
Inside the memorial, you can explore the timeline of the war and its key events. The building is not large, so it doesn't take long to visit.
The Haman Police Victory Memorial Hall has been open to visitors for free since its inauguration in June 2023.
You can learn about the contributions of the patriotic police force and read about their heroic actions during significant battles.
There is also space dedicated to the Haman police units that served during the war, along with details about the supporting military and medical units.
Exhibits feature records of police heroes, including a section titled 'The Korean War I Experienced,' showcasing vivid testimonies and accounts.
We must strive to remember the territory we gained through countless sacrifices.
As I walked through the memorial, I reflected on how peace is not something that comes easily, and I felt a deep gratitude for all the soldiers protecting our country.
Why not take a historical trip to the Haman Police Victory Memorial Hall with your child?
