Quiet Fishing Villages and Iconic Lighthouses in Gijang

Gijang, Busan, is home to many beautiful fishing villages.

This area is also famous for its unique lighthouses.

The Haegeumgang Lighthouse in Gijang and the Dongam Village Lighthouse were selected for the 'Fishing Village Environmental Improvement Project' set to be launched in 2025.

I visited in December to see the completed structures.

Although I left early, I missed the sunrise, which was disappointing.

Dongam Village and Its Sunrise Views

The Dongam Village Lighthouse is known for its stunning sunrises.

The morning scenery of Dongam Village, with clouds hanging low, offers a warm embrace from the morning sunlight rather than the warmth of winter.

Dongam Village gets its name from the meaning 'a village with many rocks to the east.'

To the south of Dongam Village is the Gijang Sirangdae, and heading north leads you to Gijang Orangdae.

Dongam Fishing Port Breakwater Lighthouse

The Dongam Fishing Port breakwater lighthouse features a striking red lighthouse adorned with models of local seafood, such as seaweed and kelp.

The vibrant depiction of the sea on the red lighthouse is both unique and impactful.

Looking towards the rising sun next to Haegeumgang, I can imagine the sunrise breaking through the clouds over the sea.

I hope to return one day to capture a magnificent sunrise at Haegeumgang.

Coastal Walks Toward Haedong Yonggungsa

To the south of Dongam Village lies Haedong Yonggungsa Temple and Sirangdae.

The coastal walking path is beautifully maintained, making it easy to stroll along.

As I walk along the Gijang Sea, I find myself arriving at Haedong Yonggungsa Temple before I know it.

Haegeumgang Lighthouse at Ilgwang Beach

Next, I visited Haegeumgang, located inside Ilgwang Beach.

Haegeumgang is known for its delicious eateries, making it a frequent stop for me.

The Haegeumgang breakwater lighthouse now features a model of a crane, adding a new attraction that symbolizes the area.

Red and White Breakwater Lighthouses

I first visited the Haegeumgang West Breakwater Lighthouse, which is painted red.

The three-dimensional representation of the crane soaring into the sky is impressive, and the phrase 'the life of the sea and the home of fishermen' resonates deeply.

Across from the red Haegeumgang breakwater lighthouse is the Haegeumgang East Breakwater Lighthouse, painted white.

The cranes on both sides of the breakwater lighthouse seem to face each other, creating a captivating scene.

New Landmarks for Gijangโ€™s Coast

Gijang is filled with quiet yet beautiful fishing villages.

As visitors flock to these unique lighthouses, Haegeumgang and Dongam Village are becoming new landmarks in Gijang.

I look forward to seeing them contribute to the revitalization of the local economy and become a cultural marine space.

As the new year of 2026 begins energetically, I hope all your wishes come true.

If you feel tired or overwhelmed, I encourage you to visit the fishing villages of Gijang for a moment of relaxation and healing.
