The Evolution of the Jongha Innovation Center

Established in 1977 in the heart of Sinjeong-dong, Nam-gu, the Jongha Gymnasium has transformed into the Jongha Innovation Center, contributing to the industrial development of Ulsan.
This center serves as a historical record of the spirit and achievements of various entrepreneurs in the industrial city of Ulsan, making it truly the command center of Ulsan's industry.
After 47 years, this renovated facility now plays a significant role in the ongoing industrial development of Ulsan.
The late Lee Jong-ha, father of KCC Information and Communication Chairman Lee Ju-yong, donated the land for cultural and sports development, leading to the naming of the Jongha Gymnasium. This gymnasium is the predecessor of the Jongha Innovation Center.
In line with Chairman Lee's philosophy that donations should be passed down through generations, he invested 30 billion won of his personal funds to rebuild the center, which will be named the Jongha Innovation Center in 2024.
The building, which consists of one basement level and six floors, has been reborn as a space for technology, startups, and relaxation.
The first and second floors feature a multipurpose hall, a children's and youth library open to the public, a donor hall, and the Jongha Gymnasium. This design not only continues the legacy of the Jongha Gymnasium but also incorporates elements for cultural enjoyment for citizens.
Additionally, public institutions such as the Ulsan Facilities Corporation and the Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency are housed within the center.
The third floor hosts the Central Center and Ulsan Youth Support Center for young people in Ulsan. Anyone aged 19 to 39 can freely utilize the space.
This area includes shared workspaces, small meeting rooms, a media studio, and a communal kitchen. Various educational programs, including a digital learning center, are also available.
The fourth floor houses office spaces for the Ulsan Creative Economy Innovation Center and the Undang Hall, where seminars and various events are held.
Named after Chairman Lee's pen name, this hall can accommodate up to 200 people. A 3D tech shop equipped with 3D printers and various tools is also available for product development.
The fifth floor, known as the Ulsan Startup Hub, hosts promising startups from Ulsan. It is impressive to see local entrepreneurs nurturing their dreams here.
Comfortable spaces such as meeting rooms and lounges are available, along with coworking spaces that align with modern work trends, allowing citizens to work flexibly.
Similarly, the sixth floor features spaces for resident companies and a multipurpose hall, like Undang Hall, designed for large seminars and events. Notably, a major corporation that plays a key role in Ulsan's industry is also located here, fostering collaboration with local startups.
The software technologies developed at the center are expected to create strong synergies in new industries such as smart factories and autonomous driving within Ulsan's automotive, shipbuilding, and petrochemical sectors.
As a hub of Ulsan's industry, the Jongha Innovation Center is poised to be a successful case of public projects between local governments and businesses.
In the long term, it is expected to contribute to making Ulsan a city conducive to business and rich in job opportunities.
We look forward to more entrepreneurs gathering to create a vibrant startup ecosystem in Ulsan, with the Jongha Innovation Center playing a pivotal role as a platform.
