Support for 9,900 Young Soldiers: Coverage for Injuries, Illnesses, and Disabilities

Hello.
Welcome to the official blog of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, 'Rediscovering Jeonbuk'.
To ensure that young individuals can focus on their military service with peace of mind, the Jeonbuk government is establishing a robust safety net.
We plan to continue the 'Support Program for Injury Insurance for Young Soldiers' in 2026, aimed at alleviating the financial burden caused by various accidents and illnesses that may occur during military service.
In 2026, we will provide strong social security for young soldiers serving in the military.
The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province is implementing a group insurance support program for young soldiers to reduce the financial burden of medical expenses in case of accidents or illnesses during training or service.
This initiative aims to create a safer environment for young individuals fulfilling their duty to defend the country, which is expected to enhance their quality of life and foster a sense of local pride while preventing outmigration of the youth.
Approximately 9,900 young soldiers, including active duty soldiers and reservists registered in Jeonbuk, will be supported. However, professional soldiers, social service personnel, and industrial technical personnel will be excluded.
The program is set to commence in February 2026, providing practical coverage against various risks that may arise during military service.
The insurance covers injuries, illnesses, disabilities, and death occurring during military service. Accidents that happen during leave or outings are also included, and the design allows for overlapping coverage with military and personal insurance.
Main Coverage Details:
▶ Death from Injury and Disability from Injury: 50 million KRW each
▶ Death from Illness and Disability from Illness: 50 million KRW each
▶ Daily hospitalization benefit for injury and illness: 30,000 KRW (up to 180 days)
▶ Diagnosis benefit for stroke and acute myocardial infarction: 3 million KRW each
▶ Diagnosis benefit for traumatic amputation: 1 million KRW
▶ Mental illness consolation payment: 2 million KRW
▶ Surgical cost: 200,000 KRW
▶ Consolation payment for fractures and burns: 300,000 KRW each
Insurance payouts will be determined based on the submission of relevant documents to the insurance company following an accident.
The Jeonbuk government will enhance both online and offline promotions in collaboration with the Jeonbuk Regional Military Manpower Administration to ensure that more young people and their families can easily access information about the program.
Joo Yoon-jung, head of the Population and Youth Policy Division of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, stated, "The most important thing is to complete military service safely without accidents and return to families. We will actively support the establishment of a social safety net so that young people can complete their military service healthily and safely."
