Sunset Stroll at Gijije Waterfront Park and Café Moonglow

As the sun sets over Gijije Waterfront Park, I want to share my experience of taking a stroll around the park and visiting the nearby Café Moonglow.
Located in the Jeongju district of Deokjin-gu, Gijije Waterfront Park transforms with each season, showcasing a completely different face. Once an agricultural reservoir, the park now features well-maintained walking paths, greenery, and relaxation areas, making it a popular spot for locals.
The park is designed with a flat layout, allowing people of all ages to walk comfortably. At night, the deck paths are illuminated, providing a beautiful view of the nightscape. I even spotted some runners enjoying the paths! With benches and small performance areas scattered throughout, it's a perfect place to enjoy both exercise and relaxation.
Especially at sunset, the reflection of the colors on the water makes it a frequently recommended spot for photography. I visited during this time to catch the sunset.
Just before the sun dipped below the horizon, I noticed that the water was covered with a wide layer of ice, with ducks waddling around on top. The combination of the frozen surface and the orange sky created a uniquely serene winter atmosphere.
Despite the cold weather, I saw several people running and others walking in thick coats, indicating that Gijije Waterfront Park is not just a place for sunny days, but a space that is utilized year-round.
After my walk, I headed to Café Moonglow, located in a nearby small village. This cozy café, situated in a residential area, is characterized by its quiet atmosphere and warm ambiance.
Upon entering, I felt a sense of 'coziness.' While the winter air outside was quite chilly, the interior was quiet and warm, providing a perfect space to reflect on the scenery I had just walked through.
The café's proximity to the park is another advantage, as it allows for a seamless transition from the walk. It’s not far from the park, and since it’s away from busy areas, you can spend your time there more leisurely.
Gijije Waterfront Park may not be extravagant, but it’s an ideal spot in Jeonju to slow down the pace of everyday life. The sight of ice floating on the water with ducks walking carefully is something I will remember for a long time.
A sunset stroll around Gijije Waterfront Park followed by a warm drink at Moonglow is a wonderful way to enjoy winter in Jeonju!
