Reborn Pilates: A Young Entrepreneur Caring for Ulsan's Body and Mind

In some ways, the young entrepreneur from Ulsan that I met this time seems to be in a profession that is essential for Ulsan.
Considering the job environment in Ulsan, where the proportion of laborers and workers is high, I think that caring for the mind and body from the arduous and intense labor is one of the necessary elements for Ulsan.
In that respect, there is a young entrepreneur who is pioneering her own field with activities and therapy, and taking care of the body and mind of Ulsan citizens.
The young entrepreneur from Ulsan that I will introduce this time is Jung Mi-yeon, CEO of 'Reborn Pilates'.

Q. Self-introduction
Hello. I am Jung Mi-yeon, running 'Reborn Pilates' in Dong-gu.
While majoring in physical therapy, I naturally developed a desire to lead people's health and daily lives in a better direction, and that flow has led to the current center.
At the center, through wellness programs based on Pilates as well as singing bowl and aroma therapy,
We are helping members create a healthy daily life for both their body and mind.
The motto of the center is “Let’s be healthy not only in body but also in mind,” so I am trying to be a guide who can stimulate the senses and guide daily life well. I have been running the center for about a year and seven months.
Q. What was the motivation for starting a business?
I originally have many things I want to do, and I want to spread things that are helpful to people in various ways.
I naturally developed a desire to become a 'guide' who can enrich life by connecting various fields such as Pilates, meditation, aroma, and body shape management.
I also wanted to create a customized process that can help everyone from the general public to those who need rehabilitation and pain management, and even a coaching course for those who want to make Pilates their career.
Rather than belonging to a certain place, I had a great desire to put my name on it and create the direction I intended myself.
Now that I am twenty-nine years old this year, as an only child, I have always had the desire to take responsibility for my parents.
When my parents were a little older and my father was retiring, I naturally felt a strong sense of responsibility that 'I must establish myself now'.
In that flow, I wanted to create a space that could fully contain my values and direction, and that desire became the biggest reason for starting Reborn Pilates.
Q. How was the beginning?
At first, I started working as a Pilates instructor at another center.
In the process, I became convinced that ‘if I use my abilities well, I can build a career in various directions in this field’.
I judged that if I run a center under my name, I can freely do what I want and create a profit structure myself.
I am a person who values 'feeling' very much, and at some point, the feeling that I should run my own center came to me clearly.
That feeling was not sudden, but rather a process of gradually taking shape as experiences and thoughts accumulated little by little.
Q. What are the rewards and difficulties after starting a business?
Since starting my own business, I have been feeling more proud of my job.
As the center was established, there were definitely more things I could do, and thanks to the program that combines Pilates, aroma, and singing bowl meditation, many people are looking for it from outside.
It is a program that contains essential elements for modern people, so the satisfaction level is high, and every time I see the expressions of the members brightening before and after the experience, I feel again that this is a truly rewarding job.
Of course, there were difficulties as well. Since everything was new, creating a center operation system, promoting it, and coordinating the perspective as an instructor and the role as a CEO were not easy.
At first, I jumped in with the mindset of ‘I can do it if I try,’ but I learned that there are much more things to consider in actual operation.
This job has moments when you get stuck if you don't keep learning and growing. It's hard at times, but when you overcome that process, you get a much bigger reward.
When I see the results such as members' before and after changes, pain reduction, and movement improvement, I become more convinced that 'I made a good choice in this job'.
In the end, overall, it is a much more rewarding job, so I can't let it go.
Q. What is the vision or roadmap of the CEO?
The direction of our center's motto, 'Let's make the body and mind healthy together,' is already being realized, and I want to expand that value further in the future.
The second goal is to systematically operate a coaching course for those who want to feel the same rewards as me in this job and walk the same path.
The goal is to provide integrated education that encompasses not only Pilates but also body shape, aroma, and meditation, and to continuously produce experts in the area.
In the longer term, I want to create a wellness center where you can fully awaken your body and senses in nature.
It is a space in the form of experiencing movement, meditation, and sensory stimulation programs while staying for 1 night and 2 days, and it was also the initial model I had from the beginning.
Since it is not a small-scale project, we are currently trying it little by little within Reborn and setting the direction.
Q. What do you think about starting a business with this item in Ulsan?
The first thing that came to my mind when I started a business in Ulsan was 'members'.
In particular, Dong-gu has many people working in heavy industries, so there are really many people who have pain in their bodies.
From the point of view that I can provide practical help to those people, I felt that what I am doing is essential for this area.
Our center values programs that awaken the body and senses together, not just a space for exercise.
When you live a social life, you often unknowingly suppress your emotions or senses, but helping to restore that creates a great synergy.
There are not many spaces in Ulsan that provide such 'integrated wellness' yet.
So, I have a great desire to play that role here, even a little bit. Ulsan is a very precious city where I want to do more for you.
Q. Any advice for prospective young entrepreneurs?
I don't think it's easy to know your pace or abilities accurately from the beginning.
So, in the beginning, there are many cases of overdoing it and burning out, but I don't think that in itself is a bad experience.
The important thing is to create your own standards in the process of 'how should I work to be sustainable'.
Also, I would definitely recommend experiencing seeing, hearing, and feeling in various regions.
Broadening your horizons is really helpful for starting a business.
I also received a lot of inspiration in Seoul, and those experiences played a big role in creating the current Reborn.
I think you can achieve better results if you experience various environments, accumulate those senses sufficiently, and then start a business.
Q. Do you have anything else to say?
If you have something you want to do, I hope you try it at least once. Even if the results are not visible right away, those experiences will accumulate one by one and eventually lead to a flow.
I think the reason you feel like 'I want to do it' is because it has some meaning.
Your thoughts may change over time, but the fact that your heart has moved is a precious signal in itself.
I hope you believe in that feeling and take courage to start at least once.
In today's busy modern society, I expect that many people often miss themselves because they are so immersed in their work.
From a long-term perspective, I think it is becoming increasingly necessary to exercise by moving your body or to have emotional healing that clears your head in order to maintain good health for a long time.
In that respect, the role of CEO Jung Mi-yeon as a guide to healing the five senses in Ulsan makes me look forward to the future even more.
If you need care for your body and mind, I think it will be a good choice.
