Did you know there's a moving museum?
The mobile exhibition content ‘Memory Box of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea,’ which compactly captures the history of the Provisional Government, is currently on display at the Namyangju City Museum.
This exhibition, which compresses the permanent exhibition of the Memorial Hall of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, into a box format, tours the country and meets many visitors.

The exhibition is designed to be easily understood according to the timeline from the establishment of the Provisional Government to its major activities, routes, and return to the country.
It showcases replicated artifacts and video content from the Memorial Hall of the Provisional Government.

Particularly at the Namyangju City Museum, the exhibition is even more meaningful as it sheds light on the lives of two independence activists with deep ties to Namyangju: Lee Seok-yeong and Jo Jeong-gu.
Lee Seok-yeong was an independence activist who dedicated himself to nurturing the independence army by taking the lead in establishing the Shinheung Military Academy with his entire fortune.
Jo Jeong-gu played a bridging role between the Korean Empire and the independence movement.
In the exhibition hall, you can see photos and related artifacts of these two patriots.

This exhibition consists of four stories: the establishment of the Provisional Government, the beginning of the republic, the return to the country, and the succession of the Republic of Korea government.
It helps to easily understand the history of the Provisional Government through various photos, documents, and media materials.
Through this special exhibition, take time to revisit the activities of the Provisional Government and reflect on the meaning of the 80th anniversary of liberation.

Also, if you want to know more about Lee Seok-yeong, an independence activist from Namyangju, we recommend visiting ‘REMEMBER 1910’ as well.
We often hear the saying, 'A nation that forgets its history has no future.'
This means that “we must remember the pain and achievements of the past to avoid repeating the same mistakes and create a better future.”
1910 is the year of the Gyeongsul Annexation, and the year Lee Seok-yeong sold his entire fortune and defected to Manchuria for the independence movement.
REMEMBER 1910 is a historical space that commemorates the patriotic spirit of Lee Seok-yeong and a complex cultural space created for citizens to stay comfortably.

The red bricks on the stairs leading to the history exhibition hall are engraved with the names of independence activists from Namyangju, giving a deep impression.
You can find traces of Lee Seok-yeong in various places inside, which look like cafes or libraries.

The history exhibition hall on the first basement floor consists of a historical court, a historical prison, a hand connecting light, and a conference room.
The ‘Historical Prison’ is a space that recreates Seodaemun Prison and Ryushun Prison, where independence activists were imprisoned during the Japanese colonial period.
Here, a pro-Japanese punishment room and the prison where An Jung-geun was imprisoned until his martyrdom are also recreated.

In the ‘Historical Court,’ you can experience a court trial punishing pro-Japanese figures, and an independence movement photo zone is also provided.
Hand Connecting Light ⓒ Kim Deok-sik, Reporter
The most impressive space at REMEMBER 1910 was ‘Hand Connecting Light.’
It is a sculpture in which the hands of Lee Seok-yeong, his six brothers, and six figures who illuminated Korea are holding each other, containing the symbolic meaning of connecting the past, present, and future.
This winter, why not take the time to revisit the meaning of the 80th anniversary of liberation by visiting two exhibition spaces in Namyangju?
